Apple's specification for 8500/9500 prescribes FPM only, in contrast to the rest of the 7300 to 9600 pack, for which either FPM or EDO can be used, although the EDO will be treated as FPM. It also specifies use of slots in the order An ... A0, interleaved if you wish for a slight performance gain.
However, this long after the heyday of such machines, FPM 128MB cards are twice the price of EDO (roughly USD27-30 and USD15-18 respectively for new cards, and getting scarcer 'even as we speak'. I can tell you from experience that 1GB of RAM in a 9500 is overkill for almost all purposes, and may even oblige you to devote 120MB or so to a RAM Disk so that VM (even if you don't use it, and why would you?) doesn't get its knickers in a knot and send random hate messages to you.
You will need to be on your guard against 3.3-V cards, the keys of which differ only slightly from the 5-V cards that you need. Force 3.3-V cards in where 5-V should be and watch the magic smoke gush forth.
