RAID windows MacOS

I’ve had a MacOS issue for a while. I use a number of Lacie and Promise drives with software RAID. With any OS later than 10.10, when I restart the Mac all the windows on those drives are closed. Single drives are fine. I’ve been wanting to upgrade the OS because there’s new video codecs coming in that aren’t likely to have a video player for that old an OS. The minimum drive size I need is 8tb. I can get single drives in that size but they feel sluggish after being used to a RAID and 8tb SSDs are more than I’d like to spend.

I’ve wondered if the issue was that the Raid arrays were too slow coming up at startup. This week I noticed a Lacie Little Big Disk on CL, two SSDs RAIDed. Only thunderbolt 1 but that’s not too important.

I backed up the OS on the Mac Pro and installed MacOS 12. Tried it out a little and the Lacie SSD windows do stay open on restart.

I have 2, 4 and 6 drive Raid arrays so I started pricing drives. I have a liking for Samsung SSDs unfortunately. Two 4tb SSDs cost more than one 8tb and four 2tb are pricier yet. So I guess I’ll stick to 10.10 fror a bit longer and see if there’s a price drop when larger drives come out.
