Quicksilver treasure inside!!

Well I just bought a quicksilver locally with 15 inch apple lcd, speakers, keyboard, mouse, the works. I opened it up and noticed the red CPU card and heat synch so I was getting excited….after checking the board it all looked good so I fired it up and the g4 turns out to be a powerlogix 2 GHz cpu!! I got the entire kit for about 100 US, and since it all works I think I finally found a treasure!! I’m pumped!!

Heck of an upgrade. Excellent score. That would make it faster than the fastest stock Quicksilver with dual 1GHz.

Very well done indeed! (Quite envious here.)
Do please post an internal pic?
Will do I was gonna take it apart clean and rethermal paste the thing. It’s a precious little gem that deserves to keep running.

Nice find, those are rare! Is it a 7448 CPU? Often with a find like that, there are other upgrades in there too.

I have not pulled it out yet to clean and repaste but I’ll let you know after I start cleaning up the thing. I didn’t look at the cache when I booted it just a quick boot check and shutdown.

Jealous! I'm in the process of upgrading my QS to 2 GHz but it will cost me significantly more than $100...

image.jpgWell, that card is a 7447a 1700pc chip. So it looks like an overclocked 1.7 GHz if my eyes and logic are correct. Its got a very small jumper block and looks like it was kapton taped at the factory. The previous owner said he bought a 2 GHz powerlogix……so thats the card as promised. Am I wrong about base speed?

image.jpgThe heat synch has a cooling bar thermal pasted to the main block. I’m laughing that it looks like powerlogix kinda bogded these CPUs together! Lol!

I just checked my other 2 GHz chip which is a NewerTech on a black card, it’s a 7448 and has 1600 on the die so I guess all the 2GHz chips are clocked…..interesting.

Looks like you have space on there for a second CPU. You should consider sending it to Trag so he can work his magic and you can claim the ultimate bragging rights crown.

Great score! I have a dual 1GHz and I am still quite envious indeed.

I would say I’m jealous but in the world of collecting we ALL get that one win.

Ok I’m still jealous. At least that is one more rare component that won’t get tossed out or forgotten.

I’m not sure if I’m gonna try and put it in my cube or another system, but it will not be forgeten, where ever it ends up it will be used and appreciated.
