PowerMac 9600 --- SATA Question

Hey guys,

I remember hearing this was possible before that others have done it with the Sonnet PCI SATA Card. And have used 7.6-9 without issue.

Heres what I have a 9650/350 1.5gb ram and I want Mac OS 7.6.1 and Mac OS 9.1 dual boot on a SATA drive.

The website shows it will work with the 9600, but it claims that Mac OS X required, and while I heard otherwise I want some ideas.

Will it work? What do I need, and what do I need to do?

I'm not 100% positive, but I think there are versions of the firmware that are only compatible with OS X. I'm not sure if thats the latest version or not. I seem to recall one of the TSATA firmware updaters saying something like "Do not update to this firmware if you plan to boot OS 9 from this card" or something to that effect.

This got me curious so I thought I'd give it a try. I had a bit of difficulty as my 9600 wouldn't boot off the 7.6 CD I had handy. Tried a 6500, same deal. Stuck in a 6400 mb and no problem. I installed 7.6 on a 320gb hd attached to a Sonnet Tempo SATA card. 7.6 seemed to boot pretty fast off the SATA drive. Not sure which firmware is on the card but if the version you have isn't suitable, you can go to firmtek and download a number of firmware installers and change it.

I have a Sonnet Tempo SATA card on my 9500. I attached a 60GB SSD drive and I have been able to boot os 7, 9 and X from it.

Everything works fine but the sound. I don't know if it is a problem with my PCI connection... but the sound doesn't play correctly as soon as the SATA drive is being accessed. Even if I run the OS from an old SCSI drive.

If you manage to make it work successfully, just let me know!
