Pismo Upgrade?

I am planning on getting a Pismo on eBay, there's a bunch of them on right now that are mostly the 400MHZ. How hard would it be at some later date to upgrade it to 500? And how expensive? Or should I just get it expecting to leave it as is? Right now I like my trusty Lombard but I'd still like a Pismo if only for the OSX DVD capabilities. And the place to someday put Airport. I'd say stick with your Lombard, As much as i love my piz' It's just not worth spending the money. look at a TiBook maybe, Because compared to the Lombard, the Pismo is definately not as sturdy IMHO and even though it has much better video than the 333 and even 400 MHz lombards; it cant run the newest things and everything nowadays seems to require at least a G4.

However, i should just say this, it's not hard at all, the proc. swap is simple and so i the airport, 500MHz cards are a little hard to come by though.

the processor is ona daughter card so its not too hard to upgrade to a 500 mhz or a G4

cost however

i agree you are better off looking in to a tibook unless you absolutley love the G3 powerbook formfactor

then go pismo

I agree with Blake insofar as you should either go for a 500 MHz Pismo or don't bother and instead look at a TiBook. Replacement 500 MHz G3 CPUs are harder to find on the used market (though there are a handful of G4 upgrades available if you trade in your CPU). Swapping CPUs is as easy as it is in the Lombard and Wallstreet.

Still, a 500 MHz Pismo for $150 sounds like a good deal if you can land it. With 1 GB of RAM, it is pretty capable. Built-in AirPort is nice, but 11 MBps is so yesterday. ;-) You'll probably want 802.11g anyway.

My Pismo 500 is still going strong, and up until a month ago when I got my 1.67 GHz PowerBook G4 15" (tee hee!), it was my main computer even though I had a dual 1 GHz G4 minitower in the house. Portability is where it's at!

Peace,

Drew

That's a big part of it. Everything after those is so flat and square. About as much sex appeal as a floor tile.

Think I'll go for it. May eventually add a 500 or G4 someday, but it will be good the way it comes, too. [8D]

G3's are great CPU's, but I'll never go back. Great for OS9 and the Pismo's run Tiger nicely when fitted with a full gig of RAM. That being said I'll stick to my Ti and my G5 thank you.

Enjoy your new laptop, may it serve you well.

SludgeDragon, you have that very wrong, PowerBook G3's are not flat and square, rather, very curvy and hip looking, (Thats why i keep mine around, I love the way this thing looks.)

:/

(PS. Sorry if i came off as a bit rude. wasnt trying to be.)
