PB 2400c USB: cannot boot with card installed

I’ve scoured the interwebs for information on using USB Cardbus Cards with the 2400c, and it seems that the consensus, from everything I’ve read so far, is that the card should not be installed in the slots before booting up. After boot is fine though, but it would not get passed boot while a card is installed. This info mostly coming from the Duo/2400c mailing list archive up to August 2004.

My system just hangs at the Mac OS 9.1 logo if a card is installed. There would also be an error box attempting to pop up, depending on which card is installed. 

I’m wondering if there are any updates beyond everything I’ve read, if a resolution has ever been found? Does anyone know what could be causing the hangup, or crashing? I’ve also read there is a script written for ejecting the card as the computer is shutting down; wondering if anyone might know where to find a copy of this script, as an alternative

I generally remove cards on boot anyway, unless they're used for booting (which USB isn't on something that old). The 2400 (and 3400 on which it's based) is not supposed to have CardBus so there are probably some software routines that don't run properly. I don't consider it a problem big enough to find a solution.

Strange, I figured there would be expected complications with the 2400 and 3400 series with enabling Cardbus compatibility, but the Mighty Cat had it offered out of the box. 

 I was hoping to use a wireless Logitech USB mouse as my main pointing device for the system.  It is tedious to have to eject the USB PC Card every time, causing additional wear to the card slots/motors, and having to use the touchpad (or have to attach an ADB mouse) to shut down the system after ejecting the card. On my Wallstreet, the USB card usually stays plugged in as an appendage to the system, and I thought it would be practical to do the same on the 2400c.

My 2400c/180 boots fine with Macally USB 1.1 Card plugged in. I have enabled CardBus on my PowerBook 2400c by cutting the 2 yellow cables.

Small correction: Tried it again: 2x boots were fine, 2x boots were stuck at MacOS 9.1 logo.

So there seems really some problems with cardbus cards on boot here,,,,

Got my hopes up  []  was really hoping to find a solution. So far, I’ve just been ejecting the card right after I click Shut Down (command + E), but I forget sometimes

Does it make any difference if USB peripherals are connected during boot?  I'm just curious if it's a possible issue with USB extensions rather than the presence of a Cardbus device.

If I leave the USB card with the Logitech nano receiver installed in one of the USB ports, it still gets stuck at the Mac OS boot screen. Is this what you mean? 

I think it's USB PCMCIA cards in general, leaving a PCMCIA to Compact Flash card (with the CF card) installed doesn't affect boot up. You could even boot from the CF card if you have it set up.

I read somewhere, the USB Problem is solved, when you take USB Driver form MacOS 9.2.2 or install MacOS 9.2.2 with the 9Helper Tool.

Installed MacOS 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 Update on my 2400c/180 using OS9Helper.

USB  CardBus card hangs the System and prevent it from booting, when inserted

Found out, that all cardbus cards hangs at boot, doesn't matter if its USB, LAN or something else...
