Macintosh Plus (Uh... weak Power Supply)

Just got a Macintosh Plus from local auction site. Comes with Macintosh Plus 1Mb, Mouse, Keyboard and a box of original manuals (with disks).

Too bad the case is yellowed and so dirty. Also, I think it has a bad power supply as it makes boot beep continuously, followed by some "geep" sound that sounds like trying to power on (that "geep" sound is getting faster and faster).

The seller says it has a bad display - I don't know. I have another SE/30 and Classic with bad power supply laying around.

This Mac costs me HK$410 (US$52.846). Anyway, I can put it on the book shelf as decoration if it doesn't work... :)

It's fairly well known the early compact Mac had power supply that was barely adequate (I must've replaced hundreds of those when I was working at a after market Mac repair shop in the early 90s.) While there, I spoke to someone that claims to have been an contractor working at Apple during initial 128k development, and his statement was to the effect that the power supply problem was known long before the release, but the management (I would think that's St. Steve) ignored repeated warnings and released the unit with weak power supply anyways..

Oh, how sad. So... any ways I can fix it? Like... replacing all capacitors on the power supply? :O

Upgrading the power supply by replacing the appropriate components should be possible. One would just have to double and triple check that their entire design is correct, even being a little off could destroy the power supply and possibly the entire system.
