For pure geek factor, nothing beats MacEKG on a 68k Macintosh.

MacEKG is a slick looking piece of diagnostics software that can be configured to run on every boot, once a day, or once a week. It has spiffy geek style graphics and it can even be configured to speak.

MacEKG works by testing various portions of your computer's hardware and storing the results. It tests the speed of your mounted volumes, performs integrity checks on your computer's RAM, checks several important components on your logic board, and also checks the state of your PRAM, among other things. Once the tests have been completed, MacEKG will alert you to any configuration changes since the last test, and assign your system an MPR (Performance Rating) number.

The MPR is logged each time MacEKG is run and it presents you with a neat little graph to visually show you how your Macintosh is performing over time.

This is some really cool software. I don't exactly know how practical it is, but it certainly looks and sounds good. And it gives you more information about your Macintosh than you could shake a mouse at.
