Looking for Jaguar PowerMac G5 edition distro

I’m looking for a bootable copy of OS X10.2.7 for PowerMac G5 (special build). The MacintoshGarden has one, but the image is broken and cannot be booted from CD. I’ve searched almost everywhere, but no luck. The internet Archive has a copy of NL G5 software restore disk and that’s all. I’d be very appreciated if someone could provide a working disk image.

Sadly, there are a lot of Mac CD images on sites like Macintosh Garden that are just hot garbage. It all comes down to the method used to extract and archive the disc.

I’ve tried re-imaging my own good Apple CDs (not these ones) and replacing non-working ones on MG before and been subjected to anger and disgust from the original uploader, who continues to maintain the images “work just fine”.

I’ll have to check if I have the CDs or DVD for this and see what I can do. Unfortunately my upload speed to Macintosh Garden is about 200Kb/sec for some unknown reason, even though I have a fiber gigabit internet connection. So whenever I have wanted to upload large things I set them aside.

I likely have these discs, though.

I rechecked my bins of CDs and I do not have the one for this particular install.

I’ll see if I can recreate from the download on MG what exactly is wrong with it. Just curious though, why you would want to install the Jaguar on it when Tiger runs much better. Are you looking for originality?

There is also the chance that the download wasn't burnt correctly @MrFahrenheit - both cause issues, probably worth a check.

@Aektann - how did you burn the image? In some instances, modern macs and PCs fail to burn a bootable disk. I'm not the best to say how to do it because I've drifted to Linux. I can't test the download because I don't have a G5 tower

I’ll download it and try to burn it from Windows using ImgBurn and see if I can boot it.

Yes, sadly this image doesn’t boot.
I downloaded the 4 part zip files, and extracted the ISO file. I burned it to a DVD and then realized my G5 is newer than what this DVD is for. I was able to mount it on the desktop and it appears to contain the right files.

Have you confirmed the image you burned can be mounted on the desktop of a Mac?

I uploaded the resulting ISO file from the 4 part Zip archive back to the Macintosh Garden page to help people avoid needing to use tools to re-assemble the image.

Let me know what you find out about your disc.

Well, I used my PowerMac G5 and

Today I've downloaded the toast image from the same MacintoshGarden link and burned it straight on my G5 using Toast Titanium 10. Well, this time the DVD is bootable. I've managed to successfully install OS X 10.2.7 and upgraded it to 10.2.8 G5 edition!

And?
Do you notice much of a difference?
Is the G5 more responsive in 10.2 than in 10.3?
I have a 2.0GHz 2003 G5 that I must try this system on.

There's no difference between a G5 edition and a stock versions of Jaguar except 64-bit parts of XNU and Kernel kit. It actually runs as much good as on my PowerBook G3, except the overall speed. Comparing to Panther, well personally I guess both versions run perfectly smooth on my 2.0 DP G5 with 4Gb of RAM. I didn't notice any significant difference first starting Jaguar and then Panther.

I made several photos of the freshly installed Jaguar today.
