IIfx-ed Up Beyond All Recognition

the battery acid must have been inside after the explosion for quite a while..it takes time to melt into the sockets etc.
the problem with ram sockets is that one drop of solder/acid in them can render those unusable, so that you must desolder/replace them completely.

Can you share pictures of the two Nubus cards? I'm curious what cards were found inside that machine... It's not clear they're video cards, but I'm curious as I don't recognize them from the photo shown.

Looks like the IIsi I have. Good luck getting that thing fixed, as others have said, the reloaded board is your best hope.

Here are the two cards:

I think they're both graphics cards. They both have DB15 ports, and the smaller one has what I think may be a BNC video output, too. I had a PC monitor with three of those on the back, back in the 90s, for RGB.

The smaller card is Apple branded, presumably the stock graphics card, and took the brunt of the liquid damage that took such a toll on this system.

The bigger card is in much better shape. It's a Formac ProNitron 80.21 B V1.1 with a ProMem memory expansion daughterboard.

The damage on this one is limited to this:

That ProNitron is a beast.

I reckon it's still fine. Which is saying something when the slots look like this:

Something I should point out to everyone who's asking: this machine IS NOT MINE. It belongs to a local museum. As it's obviously way beyond easy repair, my advice to them is to part it out rather than to keep it. They're still to decide on that. If they do let it go, I’m only really interested in the ROM myself, for my SE/30.

IIfx RAM really doesn't work in an SE/30? Why is that, anyone know?

I think the Apple branded card is a network card of some sort.

Does the museum have any plans to sell it? I’m wondering if I could cannibalise this and the IIfx board I have and a reloaded board to make one working system.

the one with a BNC connector is an Ethernet card, the 15 pin connector is AUI. You can tell it's Ethernet because the DP8390 chip you can see there is an Ethernet controller.

IIfx RAM is weird as all hell and is its own special thing, I believe for performance reasons - AFAIK it doesn't work in anything else.

Ah, AUI. This era of Macs was way before my time so I'd quite overlooked that. Better explains the coaxial, too.

I can try to talk them into the good of letting it live on. I'll see if they like the idea.

Anyone after the case?

Some LaserWriters used the same RAM as well I believe, but that's only really useful if LaserWriters are your thing and they aren't for most people. But it's the only other equipment I'm aware of that uses IIfx RAM.
