IICI can't connect to QuickTake 100 or 150 H.E.L.P!

Every time I try to connect to the cameras I get an error.

I have a IICI, no internal cards installed, only an apple brand monitor and apple brand keyboard and apple brand mouse connected.

For this project I have taken all cards out of the iici and disconnected all peripherals. (Except where noted above).

I erased the hard drive and loaded system 7.1 using the 'easy install'.

I then installed the 4 disc QuickTake 150 software using 'easy install'. This installed a control panel item called 'QuickTake image access QuickTake software 2.0.2' and a folder on the hard drive that contained many folders and a program called 'Apple photoflash version 2.0.1'.

The only software that has been installed is the system 7.1 and the QuickTake 150.

The iici has a 500mb internal HD with 17 mb ram (probably 4 X 4mb and 4x256kb) AppleTalk is inactive, filesharing is off, virtual memory is off.

I launch photoflash then connect the camera (I repeat these same steps for the 100 and the 150) to the printer port, then turn the camera on, then from the photoflash menu go to script/QuickTake scripts/get all images which gives me the following error. 'There was a problem connecting to the QuickTake camera. Please make sure that the camera is connected and turned on. If the camera is attached to a port in use by AppleTalk, please turn AppleTalk off and try again.'

I then repeat this same set up but try connecting to the modem port.

I then try using the control panel. I go to the apple menu/control panels/QuickTake image access

After it launches, I connect the camera (I repeat the same steps for the 100 and the 150) to the printer port and click 'connect to camera' I get the following error 'there was a problem connecting to the QuickTake camera. Please make sure that the camera is connected and turned on.'

I then repeat this same set up but try connecting to the modem port.

Further troubleshooting:

I verified that the cable is pinned correctly by checking continuity.

Both cameras correctly go into the connecting mode on the camera display. (The lines go around in a square.)

I have tried the exact same things as described above: erasing the hard drive (using the system install disk tools disk) and then installing system 7.5.

Then updating to system 7.5.5.

I have tried this with system 7.0.1 but the software said it required a minimum of system 7.1 so I was unable to use 7.0.1 for any testing.

Additional information.

I bought the iici on eBay and then redid the capacitors.

I put in a replacement powersupply from a power mac 7100.

Both of the cameras were non functioning due to heavy corrosion in the battery compartment. However after cleaning, I disassembled them and found the insides were minty fresh.

After cleaning both powered on without trouble.

Also both cameras had pictures still on them from the previous owner. (Further proving that the cameras function.)

I was also able to take pictures with both of the cameras. (More evidence of fully functioning cameras.)

I grew up with system 7.x-9.2, but have been on OS X since 2000. My belief is that there is something obvious that I am overlooking. There must be a setting or an additional piece of software that I need?

Can anyone please help!!!

Have not used mine for a while, but the tutorial says to connect on the modem port :

Downloading QuickTake Pictures To download QuickTake pictures to your computer, do the following: •Connect the serial cable to the modem port (if necessary) and to the serial port on the side of QuickTake (if you are not sure whether the cable is a serial cable, ask a lab assistant). The flat side of the serial cable faces the TOP of the QuickTake camera. Do NOT force the cable into the port!! QuickTake Tutorial 1 J. Kevin Maney •Pull down the Apple menu, choose Control Panels, and select QuickTake Image Access in the Control Panel’s sub menu (see right). •The QuickTake Image Access window opens (below) •Power up the QuickTake camera by sliding open the lens cover. NOTE: Connecting to the camera is a tremendous drain on the batteries. Please do not power up the QuickTake any longer than necessary.

•If you have successfully connected the serial cable to the camera once you power up, you will see a “crazy ant” running around in circles in the camera’s controls window (right). •Click the Connect to Camera button in the QuickTake Image Access Window (see picture above). If you are properly connected to the computer and all necessary software has been installed, you will see the Building document icons… window open (below left). After all the pictures have been downloaded to your computer’s desktop, you will see the QuickTake icon appear (below right). NOTE: The QuickTake icon (and the pictures inside it) on your desktop is only temporary. If the camera goes to sleep or you disconnect the serial cable, you will have to re-download the pictures!!

You should connect the QT first then power it up by sliding the cover and last connect the camera using the application.

Trying the other way round won't probably work.

I followed the instructions but I got the same error as before. I followed the instructions and tried the 100 and the 150.

The computer gives the error in less than 1 second from the time I click the mouse button to 'connect to the camera'.

The computer never even thinks about connecting.

Both cameras correctly showed the 'line moving around in a square' on the camera display.

I have not recapped either of the cameras.

It could be a problem with both the modem and the printer ports? I have an ImageWriter ii that I will attempt to get to connect. I will post back the success or failure of that attempt.

With the computer turned off I connected the 150 to the computers modem port. I turned the camera on. The lines went around in a square. Then I turned the computer on. Then I went to apple menu/control panels/QuickTake image access. Then I clicked connect to camera. Immediately got the error.

Shutdown

Repeated with the 100: same error

Shutdown

This time plugged camera 150 into modem port

With camera off

Started computer

Turned camera on

Launched apple menu/control panels/QuickTake image access

Clicked connect to camera

Same error

Repeated same with 100. Same error

Shutdown

With camera 150 connected to modem port

With camera off

Started computer

Launched apple menu/control panels/QuickTake image access

Turned camera on

Clicked connect to camera

Same error

Repeated with 100; same error

I thought maybe it was the modem and printer ports on the iici being dead. But I verified that the printer port works with an image writer ii. The computer correctly connects to the printer, proving that that port works.

I then pulled out a 7300/180 ppc running 9.2.

I installed the QuickTake 150 software from .imgs and tried to connect in the following ways:

turned on computer

opened the 150 software

plugged the 150 camera into Printer port.

Turned the camera on by sliding open the lense cap

Observed the lines going in a square

Attempted to connect to the camera

Got the same error again.

Repeated with connection to the modem port

Same error

Repeated with the QuickTake 100 camera with printer and modem ports

Always I got the same error that I got on the iici every time.

I then installed the QuickTake 200 from .imgs and attempted to connect to the same ways as described above.

Always get the same error.

Can anyone help?!?!?!

My fingers are crossed that there's a Mac fanatic out there who knows a secret magic spell that will heal these 2 cameras.

if you have been through different versions of software, and 2 completely different machines, and they both do the same thing, Chances are the cameras are shot. Either a transceiver IC is bad, or they need recapped. its something along those lines.

I found the easiest way to access my QT100/150 cameras is on my old Acer Aspire One (A150), running XP, using a serial/usb adapter and the windows version of camera connection software.
