iBook: Randomly erattic trackpad

My key lime iBook G3's trackpad randomly gets weird around the trackpad, acting like there's two fingers on it.

So I'll try to scroll down and it'll act like it's being scrolled up.

It usually goes away on it's own, after a restart, or if I wiggle my fingers on it enough.

It is kinda annoying really.

If you've already cleaned the trackpad (while the machine is off of course) I'd check to see that the ribbon cable for it is fully plugged in and properly seated.  I had that issue on a few snow iBooks where the cable was be not seated properly and the cursor jumped all over like there was a ghost second finger on it.

How is the battery? I don't know iBooks well, but I know some suffered from battery issues. What would happen is the battery would bulge out a bit and this would cause the trackpad and or keyboard to have issues.

The battery was rebuilt earlier this year and it is a tiny bit bigger so that might be related but the problem does eventually go away on it's own.

I'd hate to take it apart because the clamshells are a nightmare to take apart.

I wonder if Trackpad Climate Control would fix your problem. In my experience, the more recent trackpad designs don't seem to need any help, but installing it probably won't hurt anything...

I had a few where the trackpad connector on the motherboard cracked and came off needing resoldering.
