Found a Portable

Don't wanna jinx it, but I found a Mac Portable on Craigslist in my metro area for $40. Going to pick it up tonight.

The seller says it doesn't work, but it is complete with the Apple carry bag and everything, so I expect/hope a trip to see uniserver and a new/hacked battery will net me a functional superfast 68000 rig :)

This thing is a serious garage-find.  The dust on the case and nearly-complete lack of sunburn (ex. space bar) leads me to believe that this one has been in storage since the 90s.

I'm going to do some research on it before I dig in and start ruining stuff.

(Now I understand why they called these the "luggable." My unscientific testing indicates that an SE 2x800 weighs the same or less than this suitcase.)

I love how the bag has the snowwhite grooves too!  I found the bag's missing foot inside.  That's a repair I feel comfortable making myself :)

oh man! That is awesome! what a find, for $40, jeeeebus. Has the case, manuals, power adapter too, that is wicked, battery too, hopefully you can rebuild it or something. Most likely it is just the battery that is dead and hopefully it will work after it is fixed. As said, mobo repair is deff a good idea even if it works with the battery fixed.

this is one of the last things, well not last haha (never ending) but really one of the next items I truly want, you got everything too with that, case etc, nice find buddy!

Yeah. I need to read up on what needs doing to it. I take a recap for granted, and I think I have the battery figured out (conceptually). I need to read up on RAM and the HDD and other all-caps acronyms as well. :)

Then there's all the possibilities with scsi2sd and techknight's toys.

I really stumbled into this thing, so I haven't been planning to own one forever or have a strategy all in the works.
