hi!, this is my first post and i really need your help, some days ago i bought from internet a pb1400 almost mind but it say "doesn't turn on" on the place, anyway.. just for $30 bucks... the PB came with a real damaged battery charger.. the cable even wasn't attached to the charger... anyway...

i cut of the cable and send 12 volts (i know that this model is for 24volts). the Sleep light turns on... y pressed the power key on the keyboard and nothng happened... i press the power button on the back and the light stop glowing but tunrs on again... i unplug the mac... and the light was still lit.. was getting power from the pram battery... what sholud i do... i take it apart... there was a giant blow up in the mobo... even was a hole throught the PCB... and there was two fried IC (some 8 legs Fet chips) and also was some sort of bridge made out with telephone wire... really wierd...

so i decide to replace the fet chips... just replace one.. i tested and... CHNNNNNNNNNNN, display backlight flash for a micro second, i heard the satartup chime..., the hdd will not spin up.. the keyboard doesn't respond... and some second berfore... i heard on the speaker that makes a Plup plaf pluck noise and shuts off... pressing te PMU button only makes the pluck plaf plum noise...until i reset the power manager... but start and run for some seconds and dies....

what do you people say that i should make? throw it away is not an option... i love apples and where i live (argentina) are very hard to get... any help is appreciated, thanks for your time!

I hate to say it, but it sounds like that one's past doing too much with, apart from stripping for parts...I'd look around for another 1400, working, and keep that one for parts. A shame too, the 1400s are a fine machine, even the cs models. And welcome to the forums. :)

Eef, if there was a hole blown in the lobo, sounds like the poor little thing has been put out to pasture. I'd nose around for another lobo for it to see if you can breathe some life back into it.

Welcome to the 68k Macintosh Liberation Army! (here's hoping you've had all your shots before coming in ;) )
