Does iTunes Home Sharing still work in 2023?

My G5 (Leopard 10.5.8) is located in my guest room. I have a modern iMac located two rooms away that houses almost 25 years of digital music in the Music app. I want to Home Share on the G5 so I can see my iMac's library. Problem is when I sign into iTunes on the G5 (version 10.6.3) using my valid credentials, I get a generic error:

After much Googling, I have determined that this might be because older versions of iTunes do not support Apple's modern 2FA/MFA.

I saw that a lot of people had success typing their password plus the six digit auth code delivered via SMS, but Apple no longer seems to deliver those auth codes via text, instead opting to use their internal system to ping all your iCloud-enabled iOS devices with an "Allow --> enter 6 digit code" setup.

Problem is, these old version of iTunes can't seem to "Ping" iOS devices when logging into iTunes, so no six digit code is ever created, either via SMS or Apple's proprietary methods. I am left wondering if there is any way to share an iTunes library with older Macs still, via Home Sharing?

I'm not sure just how far back Home Sharing works. I still use Home Sharing each and every day as the backbone of my home media network. Mine runs on a newer, 2014 Mac Mini, under macOS 10.14. I am uncertain how "far back" it works. One thing I am uncertain of is what the Apple ID has to do with it. Enabling Home Sharing does not require me to enter any credentials. It should not, as Home Sharing is a dedicated, local network-only sharing that does not require anything more than being on the network (and a user-defined password, if desired). Are you sure something else is not going on?
