Corgski's liberaciones para la revolución

I know, we've left most of the "macintosh liberation army" aesthetic behind but I find it fun :v

Anyway, I figured I should make a thread not only for new finds but for a quick glimpse at my old collection as I take them out of the storage unit where they've all sat since 2008.

Yesterday's haul was a mishmash of Apple eras, including a 13" Apple Color Display, another 7300/200, and an Apple Keyboard M0116 with a M0331 mouse.

Surprisingly well kept for a monitor from 1993 at the latest. Also a completely inappropriate monitor for a late beige era Power Macintosh but hey, it's not out of place here.

Speaking of, here's the computer! It came with a seriously broken install of 8.0 and only 32MB RAM, but with a little fussing I was able to add 256 MB more and get 9.1 on it - plus I dropped in a radeon 7000 64MB with the full mac ROM.  It still doesn't like the sonnet G3 that came out of my old 7300 (which is very non-functional,) but that'll be a project for the future - who knows, I may have two 7300s soon if it's just a fussy processor card.

And last, the keyboard and mouse. These are really well kept and will go perfectly with my Classic once I deal with the checkerboard display problem (and the whole dead HDD issue.)

Today I got a copy of possibly the most esoteric release of the movie "This is Spinal Tap".

Two CDs, one with the movie including cast and director's commentary, and a second CD with bonus content.  All compatible with any color Macintosh running System 7 or above (68030 recommended)

This monitor brings back a lot of nostalgia for me -- I used one paired with a Performa 6200 for many years in my childhood, before upgrading to an iMac G3 dalmatian in summer of 2001. Nice haul/collection you have.

Thanks!

Today's finds are courtesy of OleLila and my own lack of impulse control. I had made plans to swing by his home state to pick up a 23" Apple Cinema HD Display for my G5 on the way back from a wedding in Georgia, when he mentioned he also had a G4 Cube and matching monitor to sell! A quick conversation with my fiance and a promise to sell a couple pieces in my parts/spares collection and the deal was done, I was coming home with a cube, a CRT, and the monitor I originally wanted.

The cinema display, looking resplendent next to my Dual 2.5GHz G5 tower. The display is having problems with the USB portion, which happened to my 15" LCD Studio Display too. At some point I'll have to open it up and have a look for possible failure points.

The cube (which is the stock 450MHz model, but with 1GB RAM) with its matching Apple Studio Display CRT (17" CRT)

Depending on who you ask it's either a fantastic example of googie-inspired design or a xenomorph head. I prefer the former personally.

And last but not least, everything together on my desk, along with a guest appearance from my charming fiance's forehead. :p

All I need now is to buy a set of Harman Kardon Soundsticks or track down the original cube speakers and I'll have something like the MoMA display replicated in my living room. The eventual plan is to set up the cube on display and use it for playing MP3s through our stereo.

It's a shame the forum can't display these inline, but nice acquisitions! I also got a Cinema HD Display from OleLila. I paired it for a while with my G5 and it is now connected to my Cube.

I am so happy with the image quality on the cinema HD display honestly, given that my other 1920x1200 monitor is an ancient samsung with a crappy TN panel. I'm hoping once I find my next gig I'll be able to snag a second off eBay if not from someone around here. Having dual matching 1920x1200 displays to go with my G5 would be magical.

Enjoy the CRT acrylic monitor...its really a nice one. That was one of two I had and the one I grabbed to meet you. When I found that one it had been in storage for years and the antireflective coating was like a spider web, but it came off completely with glass cleaner and elbow grease. The one I kept had part of the antireflective coating missing at the bottom and I thought I'd just do the same. Not so...glass cleaner, isopropyl alcohol, wd-40, goop off, acetone, turpentine, baking soda and Brasso later, the partial antireflective coating remains. Have seen some minimal progress with brasso and some with baking soda and LOTS of elbow grease, but maybe headed toward dremmel with felt pad.

I was wondering what was up with that, there was a tiny patch in the top left corner still. I'm still researching what I can use to remove the masking tape residue - WD40 didn't touch it, and I'm hesitant to use plastix and scratchx like I'm using on the cube since the monitor's bezel is textured.

Oh, and good news, the wonky USB ports on the 23" cinema display was just a couple of bent pins. USB is still sketchy plugged in through the DVI adapter, but it's working perfectly on my G5.

As for today's conquest, my fiance and I have been cleaning and I found his original iPhone Model A1203. So now that's on my desk to clean up.

I'm working on some particularly stubborn stuff on my SE/30 case and some forum members have offered some suggestions. Did you make a sort of poultice to let the stuff soak in? I got about 95% of this nasty old service sticker off of it, and I'm also going to attempt using a hair dryer on the bits I couldn't soak off.
