Conquest of will power...

Today I went to the electronics recycler to pick up some tantalum caps to do the Classic's logic board. The guys there know me as "the Mac guy", and pointed out a non yellowed Platnium Plus, working, with a yellowed mouse and no keyboard for $30.00. I had to resist the urge to get it, as much as I wanted to, due to running out of space.

I did however get the three dozen 47uf tant capacitors I needed, four adb mice, nine new unopened Mac formatted zip disks and six used zip disks all for $20. I'm pround of myself, any other time that this may have happened I would have jumpped at that plus!

Yeah, they said the owner of the place was cleaning out a shed and found it there along with some other in testing stuff he decided to keep. They had a stack of twenty brand new red 5.25" floppies on the counter, I have to many to count though.

I've seriously been thinking about it all day too, must resist!

Three of the mice are adb mouse ii and one is an original adb mouse. My 6100 had and adb mouse ii, it's nice to have one (3) again!

Exactly how do you get the capacitors from the recyclers? is that something they do, pull caps off stuff? I've been wondering this for a long time if it's possible to go this route when I'm looking for capacitors for my IIvx.

on another note, if they're only asking 30 bucks for it, it may be worth it to get it and then sell it to someone here that would really want it. better than being recycled.

See if you can power it up and check if the CRT has any burn-in, next time you're there.

It does power up, floppy works and rejects without issues, no screen burn in that I could see, but poor lighting.

They actually carry stock from companies that have gone under locally, as well as new old stock components from the local micron plant. They even have lasers! The surface mount stuff is all still on reels. Resistors still on the paper strips and reeled. A whole section of the place is just for components. Not every value is "in stock", so I bought what was left of the 47uf 20v tantalum caps, about 40 of them, and re-capped both my classics, I had some 1uf 50v left over from the portable 're-cap.

Www.reuseum.com is their webpage. The prices for f their items on their page is way more than what they ask for in the store. Usually if it is in the store they have not yet researched the value and sell it for the price of scrap.
