got it for free. was junked up but is now fixed with NO MONEY NEEDED

came to me put together wrong, things didn't work. Well, this is what I had to fix:

Keyboard: Someone took the laptop apart and didn't out it together right. I had to strip it down, found the keyboard's wire and connector were mated wrong. someone put the little lock in wrong. Turned it around, put the connector in, locked it down.

Screen: When I got it, only the backlight would come on. What happened was that when they put it together, they put the connector down hard and bent pins on the board where it sits. CAREFULLY straightened pins. Works now :D

Heatshield: Come on now! they didn't even TRY putting it in. luckily, it came to me with the shield. Put that in.

Other keyboard: Spacebar wasn't working right. Was stuck down. Popped it up and reset it. Works :)

Other various things: I had to put extra screws in it as the last person seems to have "Missed" screws. or put screws in the wrong ones. replaced them, stable now

O.S.: Came with XP Pro, need to reinstall. I snagged the key with Magical JellyBean keyfinder. I got discs around that work with it, just gotta find the disc. IT'S A LEGIT COPY! the person just couldn't find the CDs. since it's locked to the machine (OEM) I just gotta get my OEM discs out.

All this, for free

Just wanna let you know, if this were in EXCELLENT condition, they are fetching between 350-450USD right now on eBay. This will not be sold though

Oh, one more problem. not going to be fixed though (can't find someone that has them) The card cages is missing it's sides to hold the card in. It will fit, just not very snuggly. Oh well...

Well, XP OEM and XP Retail discs didn't work, so i just tried my FLP disc and it works X^D

this is nice, I won't have to use the 2k Pro system it originally came with. The key I got works with FLP :D

Nice laptop you got there. Glad to see you got it going again.

Over the years I have had various laptops come my way due to improper repairs. I am no longer amazed when I can fix a laptop in 1 to 2 hours and flip it on e-bay for hundreds. Most of these machines come to me free or extremely cheap from clients.

Good score you got there. I have always been a fan of Compaq laptops. (Their business lines [Armada, Evo] not the Presario series).

I love the screen on it. It's nice and big and really sharp when it comes to viewing it. Sadly, it does a higher resolution than this 21" LCD I am typing on (1400x1050 vs. 1280x1024) :'(

It seems the DVD/CD-RW combo drive is kaput. which is why I had to use a laptop drive from another compaq laptop I have (wow, the caddy fits in this too?!?! Whadja know?). s'fine, i am getting a superdrive.

I will ask a question in another forum about the optical drive

oh, one more note. Right speaker doesn't work :-/

And the battery only lasts for like 30 seconds after you unplug it. I am probably not going to put any money into this, as I normally keep my lappys tethered to wall outlets anyways. So it won't hassle me. At least it has a decent charge for my to relocate should I need :p
