Compact screws

Ok I dont wanna jump to hard here but do people not notice the threads on these things? that the plastic needs the coarse thread and the metal needs the thin threads? Its kinda ridiculous, they are color coded even. So far every compact mac that I have taken apart is backwards, and it kinda makes a mess. Either the screw or the mac pays the price. > :(

How about people that over tighten the screws in the handle and dimple the plastic on the bezel?

Haven't seen that but wrong screws in hane area have stripped a hole or two on me. Been seeing some crazy motherboard repairs like glued on caps, and I do mean glue.

Luckily, I haven't run into that problem on my machines... However, I did discover that my 512Ke was missing the top screws. The hard way. Got my T15 bit stuck in the hole...

Did that once, luckily it's on a hack and an LED will fix it nicely.

The thread counts are easily mistaken, the plastic screws are a bit fine and the metal screws are a bit coarse. Both were engineered for ease of production and an extremely low cycle count. The metal screws are particularly interesting, a nice balance between a self-tapping sheet metal screw and a bolt. Both might be called a self-tapping machine screws intended for the untapped plastic and the deep stamping in the chassis. That's exactly what the metal version is AFAIK or can tell.

I think your backwards on the screws trash course equals wider space between threads and fine is closer between threads. Coarse goes in plastic handle area and battery compartment. Fine goes into frame and motherboard. If you put the machine screws in the handle and tighten it strips the handle or like mcdermd said it can punch out spots on the front.

You are, of course, correct in what you've just said regarding the screws. Thanks for that clarification it is needed, but such is not really what I said if you read it very closely.

Sorry for the confusion, I was trying to avoid saying either type was too fine or too coarse for their applications, they're likely nearly perfect.

intended meaning:

The plastic screws are a bit finer pitch than normally seen in that type of screw.

The metal screws (self-tapping machine screws) have a bit coarser pitch than normally seen in that type of screw.

IOW, I'd expect to see at least a slightly more marked difference in pitch between the two types of screws. More coarse for the plastic ones and more fine for the metal ones.

I hope that's a little less confusing . . .

. . . somehow I doubt it. :/
