Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8, 2GB RAM and 80GB hard drive. I am pretty sure it barely used. Customer who recycled it said she never used it but bought it for her business and the person who was supposed to use it never did. Had 10.3.7 on it when I got it, which is what it shipped with. Checked SMART on the original hard drive and it only had 84 hours on it. Had not a single speck of dust in it.

Less awesome picks were a Titanium PowerBook G4 500mhz, 512MB RAM, 60GB hard drive that now doesn't work 75% of the time. Originally had RED LED on power adapter when plugged in, disconnected PRAM battery and it started working, now it gets video sometimes. Probably going to junk it.

Second is a 700 mhz 12" iBook G3. 384MB RAM, 20GB hard drive. Has GPU issues. Body is pretty clean so I am going to fix it and do something with it. Grabbed a Titanium keyboard that works on it, just need to cut the tabs off to make it fit, so no more smelly keyboard. I'll probably try to find a 512MB stick for it and put the 60GB hard drive in.

Nice score on the G5.

The Titanium PBG4's are one of Apple's laptop that I love almost as much as the Pismo. If only they didn't suffer from craptacular hinges, I would still own one. I've thad 3 Ti's fail on me due to the hinge issue. Otherwise I absolutely loved the machines. My 3rd favorite apple laptop design is the aluminum PBG4's and Macbook Pro's. Love that KB and the nice flush look the entire case has.

"Smelly keyboard" = old iBook keyboard plastics must degrade over time (UV exposure?), and I've come across a couple now that give off this horrible odour - kind of like someone hasn't used deodorant

I've come across those myself. Really bad and nothing you can do to get rid of the odor. I read (I think it was on a LEM article) that it is the adhesive that gives off this smell. And your description is exactly how it smells.

Yep, smells horrible and it gets worse as the machine heats up. I actually killed that iBook yesterday when I tried to reflow the GPU. It turned on and worked, and was fixed! I shut it down to put it back together and tried to turn it back on and the LED on the power adapter just glows red now. Tried PMU reset and it's still dead. I just threw it back in the recycling pile at work.

Did you junk the Tibook?

I could use one for parts, if the screen housing part of the machine is OK?

EDIT: I am also curious on how you did the reflow on the G3. Did you use a heat gun, IR thermometer and aluminum foil?

Everything but the thermometer and that could by why it's now dead. I got it for free so I didn't put much effort into it. The Titanium does have a good screen but it only will work on early models and I am not sure exactly which ones other than the one it comes with which is an original 500mhz.

I have an early model (VGA) and that screen would probably work. As far as I know there are 2 models of the LCD panels, the VGA one and the DVI one. The VGA screen cannot be used on the DVI model and vice versa. The is because they have a different resolution.

What state is the hinges?

How do you ask for the machine? You would have to ship it to me in Norway but don't worry, I will pay all costs :) I figured this is better than recycling it :b&w:

The hinges are fine. I really don't like shipping overseas but if you're willing to deal with all the BS involved with it, I'll do it. You can have it for the cost of shipping/fees. I got it free anyway. Comes with no hard drive and RAM.

Yeah, that BS I have to deal with every time I shop on eBay, so no difference there for me. Just state a junk value on the export sticket, and tick the "gift" box. That usually takes care of everything.

Before we go ahead on this, can you check the shipping cost?
