I recently put a deposit on a brand new in box PowerMac G4 MDD 1.25ghz very last Mac to run OS 9 (9.2.2) Native. Was being sold at a pawn store its several hours away but I am going to pick it up tomorrow. I am hopping it is 'old enough' to still support 256 colors for older games, since thats why I want it  ;)

It has stock 256mb ram I am going to buy 2gb worth from Macsales if it works with OS 9 (it will be 1.5gb in OS 9)

Pictures for your viewing pleasure:

PC2700? I could dig out 2 GB worth from my RAM drawer for you if you'll pay the shipping. It'll save you a few bucks, at least.

1.25 GHz Dual G4 MDDFW 400 may be the holy Grail of OS9dom . . .

. . . but an Single Proc box is just as fast for any code that's not specifically optimized for the second second one!

So congratulations! Color me a bit jealous. ;)

I'm sure we can dig up an old PCI VidCard to do the bit depths and resolutions you need the MDD can't do them natively.

PCI? Use an AGP card. There was a PC 128MB Radeon 9800 card in the box at the Uni sale last week for $10. You can flash those to Mac. They had a few G4-era Apple video cards too but I didn't check what they were right off. If you're interested, I can have a look next week.

Thanks Mcdermd, once I make sure it works I may take you up on that.

Trash80toHP_Mini yes the dual 1.25mhz units are highly sought after, but believe it or not this was actually newer then those because it was out when the G5 towers were to provide support but didn't have dual processor. This is going to be strictly a OS 9 Machine so in sure dual professor is overkill because few programs used both. I just hope it's not too fast to play early PPC games...

I'm pretty sure my 9800 Pro can be dropped down to 8-bit color. The single processor will help while running 9. When my old MDD had the dual 1 GHz processor module in it, if I ran 9.2.2, the fans were full-speed. After I swapped to the single 1 GHz module, it became bearable. Granted, mine had the early 400 watt power supply with the noisier fans. It won't be as quiet as a Digital Audio, but shouldn't be too bad, as long as the computer is under the desk.

Anyway, nice score.

Personally, I'd go ahead and have a partition with 10.4.11 or 10.5.8 on there, just for those times when you may need to use it as a backup machine to go online, etc. But, that's just me.

Anyone know of a good monitor combo that would be best to work with old programs.I know it has VGA/ADC/DVI. I'd prefer Apple but will consider a brand new monitor like a more recent Dell LCD or something.

Yeah I would prefer original style but they are all in bad shape with bad hinges it's hard to find a nice one, but I might go that route if I can find a good one. Also buying an ADC monitor isn't that great because it can only be used on ADC equipped computer unless you have expensive adapter.

Yeah, I have an ADC adapter and it's handy. I also have the other DVIator that is a DVI adapter for the ADC port on your Mac video card. The university sale here had a couple of those displays last time I was there but I think they were around the $50 mark :/

The next sale is on Wednesday. They're having a canned food drive and running some other discounts so I can see if I can get a decent one at a cheaper price for you, aiming for under $50 shipped if you're interested. Do you have a preference between the 17" and 20"?

That would be awesome if you can check, I mean bigger is always better but if it's wide screen old games would have issues. Condition is important and a tight hinge as those things were prone to... Well fall over. I would be willing to pay more for a pristine and a finders fee too. I'd also be willing to leave you a paypal deposit so you know I'm serious. I thought about buying one on ebay but it's anyone's guess what trash you might get. I know you can tell what a good unit would be and I trust you way more then anyone on flebay.

It's a sin to have only one display hooked up to a Mac that yummy. Keep the bigger gun in the AGP slot, if it's up to doing 8bit Gamer resolutions fine, but a PCI Card will CERTAINLY be down to performing that task.

Wind Tunnels belong on the floor, so don't let the Studio Look limit your choices. The used 20" 1600x1200 native format Dell LCD in front of me is the biggest baddest display I've ever run. Even the 22" Dell CRT hasn't got an active area this size. Resolutions with p suffixes are for watching movies, real work gets done more efficiently inside 4:3. Those bottom 120 pixel rows are worth their weight in gold, especially when I pivot them to the side! [}:)] ]'>
