This would be my second PowerBook Duo 230, which I obtained from eBay for a mere $15, sold as-is for parts, as the previous owner could not get it to power on. My guess is they did not have a working power supply for it.
I originally purchased this with the intent to replace the painted case of my first Duo 230 and restore it to it's original condition, but the logic board for my original Duo 230 went south and will not spin up the hard drive.
I was surprised that this Duo even survived shipping, since it was thrown into a "Pop Secret" popcorn box, without any packing material, leaning in the box from the bottom corner to the top corner.
After receiving this ebay Duo 230, I plugged in my AC adapter and sure enough, it started right up! The hard drive for it needs to be reformatted duo to a partition issue, so my original Duo 230's 80MB drive was swapped in, in place of the 120MB drive. I also swapped out the 4MB memory module for my old 230's 14MB module, as well as swapping out the power button module for the fax modem of my old 230.
With a lot of 91% Isoprypal alcohol and elbow grease (kind of an oxymoron there), I managed to remove the sticker adhesive residue and sharpie marker from the lid, as well as the old melted rubber feet.
Now I just need to get a Duo Dock and external floppy drive for it!
Any ideas or sources for replacing Duo feet?
