Apple Supportools Reference Guides

UPDATE: PDFs are being created, please scroll down for a list! [:)] ]'>

So back in April I went to a computer show and got some really awesome Apple items pretty cheap. I paid about $5 or so for a bunch, and I mean a bunch of Apple books and guides from the early 90's. One was a Newton folder with photos, slides and documents. Another was an Apple one with Macintosh photos, slides and documents. But I didn't get a chance to look at the biggest items. Beyond the sealed user guides and manuals in the bundle there were three big binders. [:D] ]'>

Two seem pretty identical reading "Apple Supportools Reference Guides". These are FILLED with technical specs, AppleGram newsletters, support guides, product guides, comparison charts, and great photos of old products. One of the binders seems pretty complete at about 300 pages (not including fold-out articles and printed/photocopied add-ons), while the other seems empty by comparison, but is filled with AppleGrams, System Error summaries, and Sad Mac summaries. Also there's a Macintosh System 7 binder filled with a lot of Apple advice.

I took a bunch of photos (sorry for the blurry ones) and looked through the whole thing. It's in amazing condition, especially considering it's age. The photos are sometimes on glossy paper and they look great.

I was considering (and am now) scanning in the whole book maybe, but I was wondering if I hosted them as PDF files online if Apple would come after me. I don't think they would really but, you never know. I have some free time so I may start scanning in some pages.

Photos are below, let me know what you guys think. I was wondering if anyone else has these or how common they are. I suppose they were given out to Apple resellers. ;D

OH man, you found the motherload!

Please, please, please scan them in and make PDF's.

I'd love to sit back with some iced tea, a good smoke, and pour over those.

I'll pay ya...

I would love to scan them in to make PDFs of the whole lot, it would just take a pretty long time. Throwing some cash my way would definitely increase the priority haha. [:D] ]'> I'll go through soon and make a list of what products are covered in the guides.

Well I just created one PDF of a 10 page document, it turned out to be 25 MB total in size. 8-o

I have enough hosting space to have them so it's ok. Basically I scan them in, run Automator to fix the levels, open them in Acrobat and make a PDF file. I can always lower the quality later, but for now each scanned page is 200 DPI. [:)] ]'>

Here's a link to the first PDF

Ok so I scanned in some more! These are spec sheets, two-sided usually, with a photo and information on the front and back. Some of the more expensive and complicated models expand into a six-page booklet like the Macintosh IIsi. These have odd page sizes sometimes, so there may be some extra space or parts of another page visible. Also some of the pages may appear slanted, this happens more with the booklets since it's difficult to scan the "middle" page without bending or tearing the other pages.

This binder is separated into a few sections, the first is the "CPU / Expansion Card" section. Followed by Apple II, Input Devices/Displays, Networking, etc. The list below is what is currently scanned in and viewable in PDF format on my web site. If you'd like to get everything scanned I'd appreciate any donations for my time spent since there are over 300 pages in total, I'm not selling these, I'm just archiving them for free public use. I may sell the whole binder in the future however.

Some computers, like the Macintosh IIsi, have separate spec sheets for their add-ons and adapter cards. I took the liberty of separating some longer guides into specific products, however this doesn't effect anything at all. Usually each product has either 2 pages or 6, so it's simple to keep things together. However the Macintosh II guide numbers go all the way into the Macintosh IIcx guide, so don't let the page numbers throw you off. :)

The documents below can be viewed in this directory. I have shortened the file names to display better on the page. I'll continually edit this post as I add more items.

Update: Well that took a few hours! I scanned in almost 30 guides, all of the PDFs total up to 284.3 MB. Enjoy these, next is the Apple II section. 8-o

So I was looking through a separate folder of Apple documents and came across some more product sheets. These were double-sided, color on one side and black and white on the other. I scanned them in so you can take a look at them here in this directory. Of course I use the term "Newer" lightly. ;)

-Apple AudioVision 14 Display

-At Ease 2.0

-At Ease 2.0 for Workgroups

-Macintosh Centris 660AV

Sorry to bump such an old topic - but if I get a chance I may add to the already scanned in sections. If you'd like any particular item/accessory's flyer to be scanned let me see what I have and I'll get to it.
