“Finder” Bomb error when reading cd-rom

I connected a generic SCSI with external cd-rom to my SE and loaded the Sunrise CD 2.2c drivers. I am running 7.1.1 with system update 3. When I insert a cd-rom, I see the drive activity light begin to flicker, I hear the drive spin up, then I get a bomb error “Finder” and the computer freezes up. I have to cycle the power switch on the back to get it to respond again.

Any ideas?

I'm sure you've checked, but how is it terminated and what ID is it set to?

I assume the ID is fine since the problem occurs when it accesses the drive.  I'm concerned about the SCSI termination first.

Do you have a programmer switch?  If so, you might be able to press it and type "g finder" (no quotes) into the window that shows up, to allow the system to recover.  It won't allow you to read the CD, but you would regain control after an attempt.

From my brief reading, the extension doesn't support the ISO format, not sure if that is an issue for you or not.

yea you need a few extensions for all the different CDROM types.

So I checked the termination only to find that there was no terminator installed. I thought that there was but when I looked closer, I t was a gender changer.

I have ordered an active terminator and will report back when it comes in.

What other extensions will I need to read iso9660?

So I got the new active terminator and still had the same issue - put a disc in the drive and crashed with a bomb error. 

I pulled the raw drive from the encloser and found out it was an NEC CDR-220. I downloaded and installed the driver for that drive, uninstalled the CD-Sunrise driver, rebooted and... the drive works perfectly! It can read ISO9660 as well!

including the active terminator I bought on eBay I am into this CD-ROM drive for $5.00 US. Not too bad. I also used the enclosure to format my 4GB IBM SCSI hard drive. I may bless it and swap it out for the SE’s internal drive. Or I may look for another enclosure and use it that way. Not sure yet.
