After 35 years, the Apple II Desktop gets an update from version 1.1 to 1.2 alpha 35. There are a host of new improvements. I installed it on my IIGS and it seems to work well. It should work on the Apple IIe, IIc, and Laser 128 machines as well.
Today I received all the parts for my SE/30 upgrade, namely a ROMinator II and 4 16MB SIMMS from OWC. The problem: after installing the RAM and the ROMinator, I get horizontal stripes. I have made sure that all items are properly snapped in place. Now... I remove the ROMinator and put the...
Strange issue here...maybe someone can help.
I have an internal SCSI2SD on my Mac SE FDHD. All was fine in the world and the Mac would boot from the SCSI2SD SD card with no issues. Today, I turn the Mac SE on and I get a blinking question mark. Strange... so I boot the Mac from a floppy Systems...
I thought it might be fun to see how many Apple IIGS users lurk on this forum. I'm sharing my setup, which consists of:
Woz edition Apple IIGS (purchased new in the fall of 1987), upgraded to ROM 1
2 working 3.5" floppy drives (800K) and one faux floppy (case only - on top)
TurboIDE card...
1) Is there any way to adjust the slightly bluish tint I'm seeing on my SE/30 display (i.e. white colors are not pure white). I have an SE FDHD next to it and its display is showing true grayscale. I've cranked the SE/30's brightness as high is it will go using the knob on the front bezel.
2)...
While cleaning through some boxes, I came across my LaCie Joule drive. It was the first hard drive I purchased for a Mac at a time when I didn't have a Mac. I used it for a few years in graduate school, and seem to recall that it had some problems after several years. Tonight, I found a standard...
I finally have my SE/30 booting off of my SCSI2SD. The problem now is that the working internal SCSI platter-based drive no longer spins up or mounts. A few questions: what is the default SCSI ID for an internal platter drive on the Mac SE/30? If I have assigned SCSI ID 1, 2 and 3 to the three...
I received my SCSI2SD v5.5 (external model). I'm plugging it in, via USB to my Macbook Pro. When I run scsi2sd-util, I'm getting "Error Opening HID device USB_04b4...". I've googled for answers and have not found anything. Can someone tell me what's happening and how to fix this error? Thanks!
Are there any known issues I should be aware of with the Intertial SCSI2SD-V5.5 (the external drive that plugs into the SCSI port on the Mac)? Or is it pretty simpatico with this model Mac?
I have an internal version on the Mac SE and it works fine.
Thanks!
I have a very corroded RF shield for my Mac SE/30. I would like to know what material it is made of so that I can use the old one as a template to make the new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I wanted to share some progress I made on the dilapidated Mac SE/30 I'm tinkering with. To remove the bulk of the corrosion on the parts, I submerged both the chassis and the floppy cage into a tub filled with Apple Cider Vinegar. Then I used Barkeeper's Friend to tackle some of the milder rust...
Last week, I purchased a Mac SE/30 on Mercari from a seller who mentioned he had already recapped the machine. This afternoon it arrived. In the box was a keyboard / mouse (1993/4 vintage) and the Mac itself.
It booted up just fine. Checking the specs: it has 8MB of RAM and a 340MB hard...
First time doing this (and first time working on a Mac SE/30). Attached is the area I'm fixing. There was a lot of corrosion on the board due to an exploded Maxell battery. I've gotten it to a point where it's looking decent. Broken traces are definitely there. My question is: What do I do with...
I've never bought a vintage Mac from eBay and many sellers have computers for sale "as is" with no returns. Apart from whether or not the machine works / boots, what are some questions I can ask the seller (who may not be as versed in Macs) to insure that I go in with an informed decision? Thanks!
What is the most expedient way to install system software from the FloppyEMU onto a Mac SE that already has a mounted SCSI2SD volume already on it?
I ask because though the FloppyEMU includes installers for various System software, I am getting stuck at the point where the installer runs and...
hi!
Long time lurker, first time poster. I've recently resurrected a Mac SE FDHD, which I bought on Craigslist for a mere $30. What's been done so far:
1) recap motherboard
2) recap analog board
3) recap PSU
4) added SCSI2SD
5) replaced 2.5MB RAM SIMMS with 4MB RAM
6) replaced solder on...
