    2x BeBoxes!

They're not Macs... but closely related. My latest conquest over here in the UK was picking up these two dual 133mhz 603e BeBoxes. Both need some TLC but they boot The guy who sold them to me also has the even more rare AT&T Hobbit based original BeBox. They had to redesign the architecture around PPC when AT&T decided to stop making Hobbit CPUs. I couldn't get that off him too sadly! If anyone has 3 spare 'blobs' that go on the top of the side 'columns' on the front of the case I would love them! Otherwise I guess I better figure out how on earth to get some 3D printed

    2x BeBoxes!

I don't have a clue - although there seem to be 'plenty' (if you can say about such a scarce thing) of them in Europe as far as I can tell from mentions in forums...

    PowerBook 2400c project questions

Good luck. I'm in London and have a 2400c/180, but it's been sat in storage for quite some time
  7. I have a CD of Workgroup Server Software for the 6150, 8150, and 9150. It's System 7.5.1. But it's a German one. Much as I enjoy the German language I would like to use my 9150 in English, either US or British I've looked all over the usual sites and found nothing. No downloads or physical media. Does anyone have a CD of the installer they'd be willing to give, sell, or send an ISO to me please?
  8. Thanks again @Alex I used the Legacy disc to install 7.5.1 (I forgot to mention it's a 9150/120 so that's its minimum system) last night and everything's working as I'd hoped!
  9. sorry for slow reply, don’t seem to be receiving email notifications. thanks for this - I think that’s probably what I was looking for, off to download and burn now also I’m amused how off topic this thread got!

    SE/30 PDS Adapter Epic Blunder

This is a very promising development! I know it won't help me but I'm cheerleading from the sidelines

Developing a portable user-land AppleTalk stack

Brilliant! And nice to see someone working on something significant for retro Macs also over here in the UK. Keep up the good work!

    SE/30 PDS Adapter Epic Blunder

Yes @JDW I'm afraid my Turbo040 is the old one, just as @Bolle says. I won't be able to test whether I have 100% definitely fried my bored for a couple of months but I'm fairly sure I have If there's anything I can do to help with Epic Blunders or accelerator stuff though I'm willing to help where I can

Daystar Universal PowerCache P33 in SE/30

So I just added the jumper wire onto my accelerator adapter - it's the ProtoCache 1.1 by @Bolle Took just a few minutes and I'm very pleased with the HUGE performance difference it has made now that the cache is being used properly. Thank you everyone for figuring this out and sharing how to fix this!

Daystar Universal PowerCache P33 in SE/30

I'm going to carry out this adaptation to the ProtoCache 1.1 adapter I got from @Bolle. I'll report back, but assume it should all go fine (as long as I have better luck than with my recent Epic Blunder with Turbo 040 card)

    Macintosh SE/30 Restoration

I second this! Very useful and clear documentation of your method. Pretty much exactly the same as mine, but admittedly more rigourous. Also I just want to mention that I use the twist method used by @Bolle too and also want to make it very clear how important it is to press down on the caps whilst doing so. I've recapped around 20-30 boards in the last 4 years or so using this method. I think I've lifted about 3 pads in that entire time.

    SE/30 PDS Adapter Epic Blunder

I don't have a TwinSpark adapter, mine is one of the ones that @Bolle kindly made and sold a couple of years ago. But yes, I've confirmed it is undamaged. Phew! I hope so too! Turns out you and I have different generations of Turbo 040 so the fixes (if hopefully figured out) will probably be different. I've learned you have a later board with one big ASIC, whereas I have the early board that is covered in chips, presumably all integrated into the ASIC later on. Mine is only 25mhz but does at least have the bolt-on cache card. Totally agree! I was rebuilding an SE/30 from scratch and then troubleshooting some memory that I wasn't too sure was reliable so I'd pulled the motherboard countless times in one evening. It's a shame the stakes are so high when working with old and rather rare bits and bobs...

    SE/30 PDS Adapter Epic Blunder

Ha thank you Neal! I think it is pretty unlikely but you never know...

    SE/30 PDS Adapter Epic Blunder

Ha yes, we'd probably both find it more amusing if our common mistake hadn't resulted in likely dead Turbo 040 cards!

    SE/30 PDS Adapter Epic Blunder

@Bolle @JDW I have re-tested (with a less sleep-deprived brain) with my Turbo 030 and all is fine with the ProtoCache card So at least I didn't screw *everything* up! James, I know you know *a lot* more about electronics than I, so I think I've got an even smaller chance than you of rectifying my mistake. I'm working through getting over it. When I have my IIci back out of storage I'm going to test the 040 again but I don't hold out much hope seeing as the 030 card works fine. My assumption (with very little real digital electronics knowledge) that to fix it would involve replacing dead parts... but my understanding is that: 1) you have to figure out which parts are dead (I only have a multimeter and very low level of understanding) 2) the custom chips (ASICs?) that are likely dead would be nigh-on impossible to find replacements for Not really sure what to say further than I could get another but I'm not sure I trust myself enough now!

    SE/30 PDS Adapter Epic Blunder

@JDW I just did the exact same Epic Blunder, close to one year after you Did you ever figure out a fix or find an easy way to test where the issue lay? (One last note - it's not clear to me if I fried the Turbo 040 card or the adaptor card - my Turbo 030 card now won't work either, so I'm wondering if I did something to the adapter instead/as well as the accelerator)

Circuit diagrams/re-cap analog and power supply

Hi @SE30_Neal! The screen on one of my SE/30s can have a 'wobble' now and again... I'm assuming it means an analogue board recap for me too. It's not top of my priority list though - too many projects at once. I will however try and get to replacing UE8 on my other SE/30 ASAP. Luckily I have a friend with a hot air gun which should make it a lot easier for me to remove the faulty chip and put one of the replacements I got recently in. PS hope you've received that copy of OS 8
