VGA extension cables

So the situation is that I'm going to be building a new tower PC to replace my dead Acer laptop, but there is only space under my desk for one tower so the G3 will have to move round the corner. However, the video cable that is built into the monitor is then not long enough, so I'm wondering about using a VGA extension cables, making the situation:

Graphics card (VGA) -- VGA extension cable -- VGA-to-old-style-Mac adapter -- Old-style-Mac cable integral to monitor

However, before trying this I want to be sure:

1. Is that number of connections in the cable between the graphics card and the screen too many for it to work properly, as I know some things don't work well if you have a very long link or one with lots of breaks in it?

2. Are such cables any good? - just that I saw one that was described as only being suitable for resolutions of up to 800x600, I wondered if all of them are only for low resolutions or something.

Thanks in advance if you can shed some light on this for me :) Oh, and just to check, will any "male to female" cable do the job, or does it have to be one that is specifically described as an extension cable?

Why not keep the Mac under the desk and move the PC round the corner with a longer VGA cable? :p

I decided that fewer things would need extending on the Mac so it's easier to have that one round the corner eg my speakers wouldn't reach the PC whereas I don't have external speakers on the Mac, and my keyboard would also need extending whereas the Mac's keyboard plugs into the monitor's ADB ports rather than into the tower. On the Mac the display cable is the only thing that isn't long enough (the USB mouse isn't long enough and has to be extended even with it under the desk). Also I'm getting one of those PC cases with a transparent side and lots of lights and things, and the space round the corner is in between two other things where the side window would be mostly hidden! :D

Some cheap cables will give you bad results, so go for the best one in your price range. I used a Belkin Shielded VGA Extension and it worked fine.

I've used a similar setup before with my PowerBook 1400 and my Acer CRT and it worked perfectly (PowerBook -> HDI to old style Mac video adaptor cable -> old style Mac video to SVGA adaptor -> SVGA extension cable -> Monitor)
