. . . project is now right on the front burner and the temp setting is HIGH! :approve:

Utmost thanks to TylerEss for his kind offer to sell me his JackHammer! [:)] ]'>

macmetex had two StudioArray carcasses left for me to snap up well over a year ago, thanks for that tip, Bunsen.

Here's the shot of the backside of one of them sitting on a hack that's currently in the design/feasibility study stages:

One StudioArray will be as stock as I can manage, with a pair of adapted SCA drives sitting in the rehab'd 3.5" adapter bracket. Between the two, I've got just one set of wiring. I've got a one foot long loopback cable (hopefully two) also from macmetex, that should be fine for hooking the StudiArray up to the JackHammer in the IIfx. The second one will be needed to daisy-chain the two drives together externally, strange setup, but flexible for stacking.

The other will be converted to a Fast SCSI II box for use with the SCSI II DaughterCard on the new Rocket.

The full height Barracuds spun up when I powered it on, but I won't have had anything to test it with until Tyler's JackHammer arrives . . .

. . . did I say THANK YOU yet? [:D] ]'>

 . . . no.

Sorry, I've got big plans for both boxes. ;)

JackHammer arrived safely, setting up for testing the ultimate 1991 VidCap rig:

Hard Disk Tookit 1.2.1: original, full price, full retail package from back in the day!

Radius VideoVision Studio

Studio Array, Raid: level 0

Early System 7 variant: Probably Rocket/RocketShare Compatible

Important question: Are all SCA Ultra 360s Compatible with Fast/Wide Level Two SCSI/JackHammer? Is it the same as the optional SCSI I compliance for these drives?

I don't want to get my hopes up f0r the matched pair of SCA drives I've got on hand. :-/

Suggestions welcome, encouraged and appreciated.

I'm almost positive they were OEMd by FWB for Radius. The StudioArray came with the JackHammer as standard Equipment.

Dang, it looks like I need to locate a copy of the RAID ToolKit to purchase . . .

. . . unless it's a subset of the full version of HDT?

Right now I've got two of the OEM Loopback Cables, one goes between the two drive connectors on the Array box and one for connecting to the IIfx/JackHammer.

It looks like these boxes were made to stack as high as needed for whatever RAID level was desired.

They were FWB OEM boxes, I have the same style but with a FH 1.3GB MO drive in it.

I would just stick some cheap 18GB 10K SCA drives in there since yopu are going to be using external terminators anyway. A VV setup doesn't need that much space for storage if you just want to mess around.

Anubis is also great for software raids.

I've got a matched trio of:

Quantum Atlas 10K 3.5 Series 18.2GB SCA Drives

18.2J TN18J881 REV 01-N XUC81

I haven't found the data sheet yet, but I'm hopeful they'll work out in Fast/Wide SCSI 2, I don't think I had any luck testing in 8 bit Fast 2 or standard SCSI 1.

However I do have half a dozen new SCA adapters for testing!

I guess, if everything says they're W-SCSI-U, that must mean they're U160 or it would say U360 because that's a better spec?

I've got four FWB 68-pin SCSI cables that must have gone to my old StudioArray. One of them is the one-foot version. Yours for the cost of shipping if you want them - PM me.

Matching cables are nice, I have a ton of the AVID UWSCSI cables (mostly the 1 foot ones that go between cases) for my AVID external drives.

PM sent. THX! :approve:

What were you using the StudioArray to do and how did you like it?

What time frame/CPU/OS was it when you were using it?
