Powerbook 3400c No Video

Iesca

I'm working on a PB 3400c for someone and the display isn't working, nor is it outputing video via the VGA port.

The video connector area had suffered some battery damage and corrosion, which actually led to a GLoD (Green Light of Death) state, but cleaning with vinegar resolved that. The machine now chimes normally, but as stated, has no video, internally or externally.

I've checked the main display connector on the logic board, and all the pins seem to be conducting to their nearby vias. I also cleaned the inside of the connector with vinegar and alcohol just in case, but no improvement.

Has anyone else encountered a similar situation? If so, were you able to fix it?

Had a 3400c that was never able to recover from battery leak and it wasnt even bad. Really unfortunate but thats the way these are. Something in that area is potentially damaged or not functioning. Hard to know. If external output worked it would be at least positive and something to keep working at.

It depends. I revived my 3400 after battery leakage. Even if it looks scary it is not a zero chance to fix it.
VGA and LCD are connected via different connectors.

Try shining a flashlight into the center of the screen. Maybe the problem is with the backlight and you'll be able to see the floppy disk?
