Power Mac 6500/250...

I recently inherited a free Power Mac 6500/250. It seems pretty neat, this is the only Mac that I have ever played with. First I formatted the hard drive and installed OS9. I love the look of the operating system and the voices are pretty neat. Only catch is that I don't know what I can do with it now... It has a geoport modem, not sure if I can connect to my ISP with this. Also have a game, Hexen for Mac, which is pretty mediocre.

I'd love to load up a flight simulator as this is my favorite genre of games. Unfortuantely the only flight sim that I think will run is X-plane version 3, 4 or classic. Any ideas where I might find a copy? I've googled, ebayed and had no luck.

Oh, and I forgot to mention. It has a usb card with 4 usb ports (nice!) and 96mb's of ram and a 13 gb HD.

I figure it was upgraded a couple times...

What about Microsoft Flight Simulator? Not sure what the newest version for Mac OS is, it may be that only very old versions are available.

The latest version of MSFS available on Mac is the equivilent to version 4 on PC. That's pretty old (probably from the early 90's). I'd like to find something from the late 90's if possible. Retro computing can be challenging, but if I find an old X-Plane it will be worth it!

Nice machine, but ditch the GeoPort Modem. Replace it with a Comm Slot II Ethernet Card for broadband and use an external 56K modem.

Most standard modems should work. The trick is to find a hardware handshaking modem cable. Can anyone say if a USB Modem will work with this puppy?

Consider yourself lucky that it has 96MB of RAM. Good upgrades would be an ATI Radeon PCI Card and a combo FW/USB Card (or Sonnet Trio). If you prefer internal video (or can't find an ATI Rage 128 or better PCI video card for Mac) you can use separate FW and USB cards.
