Neat Macintosh Wood Case

So the owner of the local computer store has been servicing Apple products since the late 70s and his showroom is an impressive collection of vintage Apple products.

One thing I had never seen before is this neat third party wood case, currently housing a Macintosh Plus.  The company appears to be called "Casica," but a google search reveals nothing.

That looks really good - as does that black SE!  There must be a fan at the top/back of the wooden case?

 
A wooden roll-top case might go well with Mac SE and SE/30 models or anything else with horizontal grilles (I am thinking of the grille pattern matching roll-tops), with a sliding drawer underneath for the keyboard and mouse. The black Macintosh in the picture is more likely to be a plus, as the diskette drive opening has the chamfers at the right end of the opening.

 
The wood keyboard case is an overlay.

Its not clear in the picture, but the wood case has vents on the sides and on the top that match the vents in the machine.  When I go back I will take a better picture of the sides and back of the machine.

There is also a matching wood panel to cover the bottom panel (where the keyboard plugs in)  It wasn't attached when I took the picture. I have tried to get him to sell me the case, but he likes it, obviously!  I told him to call me when he retires :)

The black machine is a Mac Plus and an HD20 that was user-painted (but the user did a very good job).

The other machines he has out are an Apple IIe, Apple IIc, Apple III, a Woz-edition IIgs, 512k Mac, those Mac Plusses, a Classic, Color Classic, Powerbook 160, Powerbook G3 Kanga, Powerbook G3 Pismo, one of the Apple PowerCD things, an iBook SE, and a few others.  In the back he has even more he hasn't put out.  He is a great guy.  Very patient with me when I want to come chat about random old Apple stuff!

 
That wood case looks really nice and certainly captures the era, I remember that blonde wood tone being used for office as well as home furniture.  I had a stereo cabinet made from that same wood ...with dark tinted glass panels ...man i'd love to have that w/ the old stereo.

I like that black Mac Plus, I always wondered why computers were beige, -I remember having a conversation in the early 80's w a friend ...as to why no one made computers in black, silver or other colors.  I guess the owner of that Mac Plus must have thought the same thing?!

 
Hey, I just noticed that your signature says your in the SF Bay Area, ...can you tell me the name and/or location of this store? I too live in the SF area and would love to take a field trip out there to see the collection.

 
I was wondering this as well. I'm not local, but I do get out to the SF area occasionally and would love to visit this store.

I assume it's not the same one, since I visited it this past summer and don't recall anything like this on display, but there is a great classic Mac store in Berkeley also (M.A.C., I think?). Really wish I still lived in Berkeley.

Sadly, no, on the east coast (CT). My heart still lives in the Bay Area though. I have friends there and try to visit as often as I can.

I work in SF, live in Marin County.

Berkeley is 25mins for me ...I'll have to go visit that Mac store.

..would love to visit the one from this post though...

Also there is some kind of historic computer museum here, I think in the S.. Bay Mountain View maybe?, but not sure,  which has all kinds of cool things including some interesting Macs.  It's been years, i'll have to make another trip there too.

 
eR1c: Yeah, I think it's down in Sunnyvale or Mountain View. I went there a couple years ago, and it was quite fun.

Academic jobs, not plentiful in the Bay Area. At least not at my skill level! I have a good job teaching ancient languages, I can't complain.

Ah just saw this!

The store is called Computer Center of Hayward (in Hayward, obviously)  It is a small store and the older equipment just kinda sits there (its not plugged in or anything).  The guy who collects/works on the old macs is the owner and is named Ross.  Nice guy and has always helped me with my repair/part issues.

Hayward is about an hour from me, but my sister lives in San Jose ...so I think next time I go down to visit i'll have to stop by this store.
