Since I am actively searching out for more stuff, thought I'd make a continuous finds thread.

Recently got a 9.1 GB 50-pin Seagate SCSI hard drive in exchange for a Chicony CH-471A Socket 3 motherboard I had lying around on another forum.

Also managed to get another Freecycle score!

So I recently posted an ad giving away some old toys I had lying around on my local group. Got a reply not too long after from somebody who wanted my stuff had also seen an earlier ad from me asking for vintage Apple stuff and mentioned that they would give me a Mac and some software.

When I came back home, I saw a very nice looking Macintosh SE with ADB keyboard/mouse and a boxed copy of Glider 4.0 on my porch! Haven't powered the SE up yet but I am extremely excited that something came up for me on Freecycle again.

Good for you on the Freecycle finds!

I've had no such luck so far; I put up an ad, and I got one offer for a blueberry iMac G3, but it seemed to have gone poof before it got anywhere.

I suppose I could re post and try again, but I'm somewhat skeptical at this point.

Maybe I'll do that and see. I'm curious if I could rephrase the ad to be more clear, and maybe include links from, say, LEM or EveryMac, to profiles of the particular models I'm after (is that legal?).

Powered up the SE a few days ago... works great! Came with 4 MB RAM and a 120 MB aftermarket upgrade HD.

Freecycle definitely takes some persistence. What possibly helped for me was that I was willing to take any Apple stuff off their hands and that I would wipe the drives safely for them. Also, if people see that you're giving away stuff as well they are generally more willing to give stuff to you.

In addition... made two big scores!

Got another reply to my Freecycle ad, this time with a Mac II and IIsi, monitors, cables, a box of unopened software, and a HP Deskwriter. I am meeting the guy on Friday and helping him wipe his data off.

Also got a Color Classic today at the local college electronics flea market. It was kinda in rough shape. The front badge was snapped off at some point and the motherboard ports had some corrosion (probably sat outside for a little). Took a pretty big gamble, as the guy didn't know if it worked and sold it to me for $35, but it wound up booting to a stock 4 MB/80 MB configuration.

Oh yeah, sorry for the double post, but I also had a Performa 460 that I got for $32 shipped arrive a few days ago. The case is kinda rough but it came with an Ethernet card and a 2 GB SCSI HD, so I am pretty happy.

Got the II/IIsi (very nice guy), and I am super happy.

The II (which he used personally) was in very nice shape, but it came pretty barebones, with a 40 MB Connor HD, the basic Mac II video card, and 4 MB of RAM. It boots up fine to a 7.0 install, and I'm going to immediately bump it up to 8 MB. Also got the AppleColor High-Res RGB monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

The IIsi (he told me had purchased this at a garage sale years ago) was in very nice condition, albeit a little stock. It had a 80 MB HD and 9 MB RAM.

Also got a box of software (various Word/Excel versions) and an HP Deskwriter C printer with some brand new ink.

Congratulations, nonetheless! I have had a little bit of success lately with freecycle: I got rid of one older PC I don't really want, and I have lined up a Mac Plus with lots of neat looking accessories (tow hard drives, a Mac 128/512 keyboard (the closest I'll get to the real thing for awhile, I think), and I forget what else... Oh, and original System disks).

It's astonishing what one can get for free if they're persistent.

Persistence is the key! I had to place several ads on two different Freecycle groups.

Anyways, I had two more Freecycle scores.. one good and the other amazing.

First one is a Mac Plus. Don't know anything about it except that it works great and has no keyboard/mouse.

In addition, I got a reply to my ad about a original Apple II motherboard, with S/N 1156. Don't know anything about the board (i.e. upgraded ROMs or not) but I am still pretty shocked.

Picking up the board on Thursday and the Plus on Friday!

Got the Apple II motherboard + a free copy of Visicalc today. The guy (very nice fellow) worked for Apple back in the day, and the motherboard was pulled from his old work machine. No Integer ROMs unfortunately, but I am very happy nevertheless.

Hopefully I can get this working soon!

That Apple II board is amazing find. I've always got my eye open for one. I'm hoping to get lucky like you, cause otherwise I couldn't afford it after seeing how much these sell for lately. :O

wow I would love an external portable battery charger, I would never plug in the thing again. I wouldn't ever have to tax that circuit again.

I have a apple clone with ROMs a guy built. I never booted it as the thing is all hard wired and such and in a wood case lined with aluminum (like the III) but with a case fan as he was a ham radio operator and needed no interference. I could take a picture of there position and hand written labels and you could have them if needed. It came with a motherboard layout (which I misplaced and am looking for) so he could build and trace everything.

They actually should still have a few external battery chargers for cheap - I'm not sure when I can make it again but if I can get there soon I'll snag one for you.

So a few months ago, I started talking with someone who needed help wiping the HD of their Classic II before they disposed of it. After I helped them out by sending them a bootdisk and mouse (they were missing theirs), they sent me the Classic II as a thank-you gift!

It is in really nice condition with only the slightest signs of use. I recapped the board and the sound is nice and loud.

Met up with CC_333 and co. today - I am glad that I got to meet you guys!

I traded/sold my extra Frankenstein PB 170, IIsi, PB 520c, and some SCSI enclosures to CC and gave my beater/non-working Wallstreet and G3 AIO to him for free.

This is what I got from CC:

Performa 575 - one of the dirtiest vintage Macs I've seen, period - but cleaned up well. Works great.

PB 165c - originally from James1095. I originally got this to get parts for my 180c but I am going to take a shot at fixing up the 165c's broken hinge mounts and get it working again, as it'd be cool to get the 165c and 180c together.
