Although I doubt it would make Radius Rocket video faster, even if the manual says so. Could you test that theory in RocketShare perhaps?

I won it all right! It's paid for and I'll be getting it when I get home midweek. I'm almost positive it's the Apple 24ac or its Radius alter ego, they both look EXACTLY the same from that angle . . .

The Radius ROMs just make the card's more usable with 60Hz LCDs. They don't make the cards run any faster with the Rocket that I know of.

The section about supported Video cards, the Apple ROM'ed version is not listed. Although the manual could be older than when Apple was making the card. It also does not show up on the rockets' graphics acceleration control panel.

However, graphics don't feel slow by any means.

I'm getting some strange results from this one . . .



. . . but it jibes with the LEM Specs

The VRAM IC capacities are spec'd at 128 instead of 256, as on the Apple 24AC and my LittleRedRadiusPixelRocket™ of the same spec.

I'll have to try this ROM in one of my Apple Display Card 24AC Cards.It's a newer rev of the (hopefully universal) PrecisionColor Pro ROM, so we'll see what it'll do with a Card with twice the VRAM allotment.

Well, it's not a "Universal ROM," as you can see from the ScreenShot . . .



The Apple Display Card 24AC is handily lobotomized when the 24Xp ROM is installed.

Different story entirely with the 24X ROM installed . . .



. . . the ADC 24AC thinks it's the real deal, I'll have to test for OS 9.1 compatibility for the 24AC with this upgrade.

I finally took a look at the rest of this $1.00 haul. I picked it up yesterday evening, it was sitting in a box on the seller's porch, all but across the street from me! Never even flipped it over to check out the DuoDock MLB when I pulled the Radius Card off the Gemini Slot Adapter.

Strange assortment of goodies, this config almost makes me think the seller was using the Dock Topless w/o ROM to enable the LCD for use with a second monitor and the NIC. IDK the DuoDock_II specs offhand, I've never had one, but the L2 Cache and CoPro will be nice additions now that I've added the 250, finally! I've always wanted one of those, along with the 270c and 280c Models. The DuoDock+ I've always used with PowerDuo doesn't have either of those features. I just hope it fits, it probably does, they probably wouldn't have done a second case revision for the 2300c Docks.

edit: I fired up the QS'02 to check out the DuoDock series and found something interesting. It seems that there was only one Rev of the DuoDock Base. There is a "Plastic plug for future upgrade" on the back of the original DuoDock, with the Network Icon for the DuoDock II's AAUI connector already in place.

I wish I had know how rare these would ultimately become ten years ago. They used to lay around in the Goodwill bins, homeless, month after month, while I scrounged through looking for Thunder IV GX cards... But even the (seemingly) lowly consumer grade NuBus cards would ultimately become valuable... Sigh.

You see things differently when you are a collector then when you are in it for the money. I passed up a bunch of cheap stuff because I already had one or two of them, now they seem to be going up in value. Scrappers are shredding old hardware like crazy, lot sof the old Nubus cards have ended up as ewaste. Heck people are buying 386/486 chips for $130/lb as scrap.

What is the advantage of putting the 24X ROM in the 24AC?

I'm a bit confused about that ATM, I haven't installed the Radius Drivers for the 24X in order to do a full workup because I've got so many other projects and hacks cluttering every working surface in the joint lately. Noodling out resolution timing data for the SuperMac Spectrum/24 has fragged my brain for the nonce. Building a spreadsheet for calculating the SuperVideo control panel settings for wide screen resolutions and then choking the list of oscillators required for them outta the dang thing has been a real PITA. Getting the crystals spec'd and ordered is probably the only WetWare DeFragging procedure available to me ATM.

That said, ISTR that the 24X ROM enables more, and better, resolutions at a more LCD friendly 60Hz timing, but that's more than a bit hazy as my recollections go.

Definitely, getting the Network up and running to test extra NICs for trade goods has been an ongoing annoyance as well, I HATE Networking!

As you can probably tell from the above logjam, I've been scouring eBay for NuBus and PDS cards for quite some time. I've snagged every affordable deal I could find on Macs with the cards on my list, single cards and every lot of cards and interesting accessories I've searched. Hence, the overflowing Magic Plastic Shoe Boxen of NuBus/PDS Goodness™ spanning the considerable width on top of the wall cabinets in my (obviously bachelor pad) apartment kitchen, along with the fully stuffed Macs and DuoDocks that inhabit the joint.

When I enlisted here and began my collection about ii years ago, I figured that the cards, adapters and peripherals would be the choke point for collecting the Macs to house and play with them on my own terms. This was especially true of pro level cards that ofttimes cost more than the Macs they were designed to enhance. My experience collecting pro level interchangeable lens rangefinder cameras, lenses and accessories had immediately translated into this mode. Heck, I've got lens shades for lenses I've yet to source along with other accessories for cameras still on my list.

Yet again, tangential discussion proves more interesting than the OT here at the barracks. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences comrades. :approve:

For me special and rare cards and legit software have been what I spend most of my money on and time searching, machines come up for sale much more often. I still snag a Nubus card here and there but once you have all the common stuff it gets harder to find something you don't have at a price you are willing to pay.

While I am still missing some cool stuff I have to say I am very happy with my collection.

It's extremely difficult to get legit software for OS9 and below.

It's a safe assumption that even when you do manage to get the entire retail package, the seller is still running the SAME ACTIVATION KEY on an OSX upgraded version of the same program. Heck, I could sell about a half dozen "legit" revisions of Adobe Illustrator on eBay. The key dates back to Illusatrator 88. The killer is that when I called Adobe for my free replacement set of missing media, they didn't even have an Illustrator 9 image available for download. I picked up another "legit copy" on eBay that I'm positive wasn't really legal. That's abandonware on an entirely unacceptable level from a company still selling the same product!

Meanwhile, as a mod, that's the deal here, BTW. But personally, I think software/driver/documentation preservation needs highest on the list of priorities at other undisclosed locations.

I have lots of boxed 68K apps that never made it to ppc let alone something you can run on OSX. There was a huge drop off of applications during the switch from 68k to ppc processors. Anyway finding it is hard in the wild, used to get some at a local thrift but it closed.
