I've got a graphite Apple Studio Display 17" (M6496) that flickers out at random, the image snapping to the center then slowly re-expanding over the next few seconds. This unit is on its original caps, but based on the symptom and other people's reports of problems with this model I'm assuming it's a bad flyback transformer and not something else going on.
I have next to no experience with CRTs, apart from the minimum stuff required to work safely on the 9" tubes in the compact Macs. How do y'all identify acceptable replacement flybacks? Is someone aware of a part that is a match for this monitor? Is there something else worth checking before going after the flyback?
