G3s, G3s everywhere

Picked up a Gossamer 300MHz G3 minitower in a trade. None of my typical beauty shots (my gear is elsewhere this week)

Currently has a spinner, but I'm going to snag another IDE-CF adapter

768MB built in memory. Fresh install of 9.2.2 which I might knock down to 8.6 depending. Sadly only running through my 13" display at the moment.

One more thing...

I also picked up one of these on a gamble as it was untested:

Interesting that it doesn't register the 1MB backside cache

But these numbers don't lie (downloaded graphic converter... I actually owned a license up to the version released with Snow Leopard, and now I can't find it)

I also got a PC Compatibility Card p/n 820-0729-B i586 pentium at 100MHz I believe.

Won't be able to test it fully till I Get the loopback cable--GIMO cable is another unicorn on my list of big game hunts

Very nice! That L2 is a thing of beauty!

You are going to end up on a hunt for quite a few upgrades soon, as that G3 be made into a nice classic beast. You can also find the Vram upgrade chips for the PC Card on eBay.

Nice score on the Sonnet Crescendo, I'm all for boxes and packaging!
lol, the best part was the household plastic cling wrap in place of the actual shrink wrap. Weird addition, but okay... I knew it wasn't NIB

Missing the CD/Floppy install, but meh, internet has all

Do you know the P/N for those off-hand?

I'm having a devil of a time finding a single FPM DIMM for the main memory-- just sets of 4 which I'll never use in anything...

The 4400/G3-400 is shaping up to be a dang decent rig now  :)

A lot of the stuff I import from Japan come wrapped in that cling wrap "Saran Wrap" material a lot of the time. I still haven't figured it out.. :p  Still, box is a pretty big deal.

FPM are readily available,
Nice. Snagged that one. Also found your old thread on PC cards and found a Mach64 oddly from RecycledGoods as well! lLso nabbed a loopback cable :3

Except for the virtually inexhaustible RAM ceiling, I'm kind of liking the 4400/G3-400 over the MT ...I'll give it some time though.

ALSO, if anyone is interested, I'm looking to trade my flush ZIP bezel for another CD-ROM bezel.

Updated numbers. MacBench 4 on a clean install of MacOS 8.5 didn't want to open any of the results, so there's something wacky going on there... Entered the new numbers manually.

Another strange note: for kicks I ran the Norton Utilities 4.x system info test and it ranked the PMG3 MT below the PM9600 ...okay

You have 8.6 on the 4400 and 9.2 on the G3MT, so you can have the best of both worlds. My Beige G3 is primary used as a bridge machine where I make floppies off images, burn CDs, etc.

I know for a fact this chip works (ended listing) because that's what I used to upgrade the PC compatibility card I had in a long since gone 8600 tower.

Surprisingly, there aren't nearly as many listings for it out there as there were when I was hunting for them.  Just make certain that once you get the chips you insert them correctly oriented...unless you want to see some magic smoke coming out of your PC compatibility card :sadmac:
