Maybe this approach would be less of a headache for you! OS 8.1 is perfectly good too (did you purchase it?).

Hi, @croissantking, yes I bought the British Mac OS 8.0 CD when it came out and there was a free upgrade to 8.1 as we know. That was part of the fun of upgrading the PowerBook 1400c in my own pretty crude way, starting with its original 750MB HD.
