compress / uncompress files

I want to send a package to a Newton 120 using NCU. However, the package is made for a Newton 2100. Therefore I just want to send the file from NCU but the Newton should not try to install it. I was thinking of something like Stuffit - but I can't find archiving / unarchiving tools that work on the Mac AND on the Newton.
Background: I have a Newton 120 which I can connect to an old Powerbook 165 using a serial cable. But my Newton 2100 doesn't have the serial dongle; the only way I can get data in or out is IrDA. That's why I want to put packages first on the 120 and then beam it on to the 2100. Before sending the package to the 120 using NCU, I'd need to "compress" or otherwise alter the package - so that it is only stored, but not installed on the120. Then I'd like to send that file on to the 2100. And finally, I'd need to "decompress" or otherwise change back the package, so that it becomes a regular package again and is installed on the 2100.
What should I do? Thank you very much! Kind regards, Karl

I’m fairly sure the Newton doesn’t have a file structure like that to copy individual programs and beam them to another Newton.

Short of not finding a dongle for your 2100, I would suggest looking for a later model PowerBook with IRDA built-in.
