Was this really necessary Apple? AAUI already supplies +5v for AAUI transceivers and has enough juice to power regular AUI transceivers using a simple pin adapter. Why do you need to make an external power brick?

Those tiny storage bins look like normal large storage bins.  The perspective makes it look like that AAUI adapter is the size of a briefcase. :p

Funny because I have an official Apple AAUI to 10BaseT transceiver with actual electronics in it that is a fraction of the size. IBM used the AAUI plug too, but called it "Mini AUI". What does the inside of that box look like?

Unfortunately it's ultrasonically welded so I can't open it without destroying the case. My assumption is you will find the AAUI-AUI conversion is completely passsive, along with a +5V transformer and a simple switching circuit driven by the mac's own +5v AAUI supply.
