A few SE/30 Reloaded Build Questions

As I’m working on an SE/30 reloaded board, a few questions have arisen, If anyone would like to offer any knowledge or advice, I’d appreciate it.

1] U32 Crystal Oscillator (see pic) appears to be polarized based on the silkscreen on the board? As I was cleaning the parts, the writing on the top of mine was washed away (yes dumb). If it is polarized, is there a way for me to test it? Could anything be damaged if it was installed backwards?

2] What the heck is 321 L2 (see pic)? Does it need to be installed in a particular way as there is no indication on the part.

3] I have a socket for the CPU. Is the consensus that using a socket for the 68030 is a good or bad idea? Someone mentioned in a video that NOS chips may have difficulty making good contact with socket and therefore recommended soldering directly to the board.

4] As I removed the floppy port from the old SE/30, some of the pins were damaged. I can repair them but I noticed that the pins had something that looked like tiny resistors built in? Am I dreaming?

5] My GLUE chip may or may not be working as it was somewhat corroded on the battery bombed board. I cleaned it and the pins look ok under the microscope. Is there any way to test it before I install it?

Sorry, here are the pictures.

1] U32 Crystal Oscillator
It is important how you orient it! Carefully look at the shape of the metal: Three edges are rounded, one is sharp. This is also reflected on the PCB silkscreen. The sharp edge is pin 1.

2] What the heck is 321 L2
It‘s some sort of inductor (or rather three of them I think). Orientation should not be important in this case.

I‘d use the socket. The first batch of SE/30s were shipped with socket, so this should be no problem.

5] My GLUE chip may or may not be working as it was somewhat corroded on the battery bombed board.
There is no way to check it, except in a working early Mac II series machine (II, IIx, IIcx, SE/30, LW IINTX..). My personal recommendation: carefully clean the chip and solder an SMD PLCC socket to the board. If it turns out to be bad, it will be easier to replace.
4] As I removed the floppy port from the old SE/30, some of the pins were damaged. I can repair them but I noticed that the pins had something that looked like tiny resistors built in? Am I dreaming?
Do you mean the external floppy port? This sounds very unlikely.. could you post a photo?

Thanks very much for your help!

+1 on the socket. Gives you options to add a socketed booster/accelerator later and save your PDS slot / space for other things.
