i think it's more likely that you just had crud shorting pins on the mainboard, and the chip swap cleaned it up.

only reason i'd use a tower would be to steal the molex power.

with scsi, i'd use a Zulu-compatible scsi emulator that has initiator mode. that will image the drives well... all you need is two drive enclosures and appropriate cabling. for ide, i'd get an ide/usb adapter and image with a modern computer.

did you try reinstalling the old simms? does it power up fine with them installed?

i like this project. very cool to have this information readily available i do have one gripe though: these weird highlight scroller elements are really annoying. any way to replace them with regular buttons?

PCI token ring cards do exist, and a number (all?) work with MacOS... but i'm not sure if the driver is included with installs normally.

1) that machine needs capacitor replacement.... rather important, they can be unstable without that repair being completed! 2) by floppy to sd adapter I assume you mean "floppy emu". it's a good start, but without a scsi emulator or hard disk you're going to be rather limited to whatever fits...

this sounds like broken traces somewhere. did you beep out the scsi lines with a multimeter?

where's the putdown? please highlight it. i don't think it's bad advice to suggest not running around and buying every bit of hardware possible. start small and simple

i'll be real man. you're getting way ahead of yourself. practice your recapping skills first, then start shopping. also, don't buy that flux/wick bundle... that's not where you want to save money. stick to brand name, like mg chemicals or kester something like this is fine for a battery
