I did this hobby-work time ago to repair/reconnect a broken video flat cable of an M5120 portable owned by a friend; my friend Alex is here in the forum ^_^ and he need now to follow and try another repair by itself, (seems that this flat are easy broken by people that open this portable); he asked me the details of the repair i did time ago and i thought that this work can be useful for other people as well, so i'm putting these data here; you need to know how to use a soldering iron to connect with a wrapping wire the lost connections that are broken (i did 5 or 6 in that repair) between the upside of the motherboard connector that has exposed contacts and the socket.
Below the pin to pin links between the motherboard socket and the video board one, for the solder on the video board i use the contact available on the socket as you can see in the pictures attached. The letters/characters are from A to *, you can see also the to ground contacts (C,O,X,L,U,5,Q,8) and the hooked ones. The correspondence is the following considering the contact on the video board starting from 1 to 24 from left to right :
Video board = MB socket picture
1= I, T, C, N,P,3,6,W
2= as 1
3= X
4= F
5= 0, 5)
6= as 5)
7= as 1)
8= E
9= 4
10= as 1
11= V
12= D
13= C
14= M
15= U
16= as 1
17= 2
18= L
19= as 1
20= B
21= 1
22= as 1
23= S
24= A
So now, for who has a broken flat on a portable M5120 the repair is easy, check the continuity with your multimeter and then obviously you need to use a soldering iron with a thin tip and just be careful to fix the transparent plastic part that is over the motherboard socket contact with some tape in the way you do not burn it during the solder. The wrapping wire then can be easy placed in the same passage of the flat... but then in it there is just to play a little bit when you rebuild the plastics parts to close the monitor.
