The TAM Appreciation Thread

Yeah I've had that happen before. I think it was memory plus or something like that. They tried to refuse to take the RAM back, which was weird, and then eventually after having to really press the issue they did. Since it was through amazon I'm sure you'll get a little more traction.

Yup, they are everywhere. I knocked them off when I was screwing around with the pre-amp.

the POS chinese rectifier tube failed and I ended up using a NOS 6X4 which I had to re-wire the socket to support. All good now though

Man, if I left my stuff all over the living room like that, my wife would kill me. Here is my TAM on display. Sorry, I can't figure out how to rotate the image.

Yea, well I dont have a wife. For me its a 3 bedroom bachelor pad. Except 1 bedroom is all storage, and 2nd bedroom is unoccupied with a couple things in the floor that leached over from the storage room. lol.

Hi, i have a question : i have a TAM but i have note the PCI riser.

I search the reference (and the size) frome the original PCI riser for the TAM.

I have tried with a "noname" model, but i can't close the TAM with the fat back, and the dual PCI riser from a Power Mac has not the right size.

Hi Dandu,

Just had a look and you need the Apple PCI Adapter Card 820-0689-A, usually found in 63x0 PCI Macs or easily enough found loose online.

If you do use a generic PCI right angle adapter, I measured the far most fingers of the adapter --> right angle PCI slot is exactly 1.5cm.

Actually, i use a riser found on Amazon.

The size is OK (the height), but it's misaligned with the fat back.

The Apple dual PCI riser is OK for that : the PCI connector is shifted.

I have a photo (from up) :

PCI.jpg.6ed0d7d35582e81429098accd8d04cbe.jpg

The first is too short and the card will not fit, because there is the hard drive cage.

The second is on the wrong direction.

The third is the same as the first.

Number for is OK in size, but PCI connector (male and female) are aligned, and it's not good.

And the last is too high (i can't use the Comm Slot riser). You can see the shift between male and female connector.

I search a riser with the shift (like the dual) and the right size (like the 4).

The single Apple one is probably a 5400 series, while the twin is 6400 or 6500.

I have had a look in my drawers, and i have the same units.

my two cents is that Apple made a special riser for the TAM, to accommodate both cards.

Maybe you can get rid of the second connector in the last one and cut the card to suit.
