System Version on System Folder Icon

I spotted this Mac Portable screen shot recently. As you can see, the OS version is a part of the System Folder icon itself. I've never seen this before. Would any of you know if this is something exclusive to the Portable, or is it perhaps an INIT hack?

I doubt that was made by apple, but you never know, maybe some backlit portable developers team easter egg? hope someone with original portable backlit (as that version of portable came with system 6.0.7) install diskettes would tell as here ... and where did you found that link? I can not get to the index page ...

When I first read JDW's post, I knew that I had heard the question before. Don't treat this as gospel truth, but might it not have been a feature of developer System 7 to give an indication of which environment was running?

I was about to say something dumb yesterday, like "Maybe it's a custom icon which he pasted in," but then I remembered that System 6 didn't have that feature. :I

So I'll say it today instead. :p

look at the folders, they got extra shadow, not used in usuall systems, so it must be a extension or customized system suitcase ...

Sorry about my delayed response, SLO. I actually found it on EBAY, in this Mac Portable auction. I was thinking about bidding on the auction so I didn't want to post the auction here until it was over. No need to increase the number of people bidding against me. No matter, I decided not to bid when I see the price hit nearly $400 and the reserve still not met. It ultimately sold for far more than I thought it would.

JDW, thanks for posting the link to the auction. I too have been reluctant to link to an auction I had some stakes in. But there is no "I" in Army – shame on us.

I'm looking at this screen which seems to show some kind of file management software, the icons of which show the exact same effect as the icons in the Finder windows. It is possible that it's that software that is responsible for the altered images.
