Superdisk drive: Initialization is not possible

I have a Superdisk drive LKM-F934-1, Ide, from Matsushita-Kotobuki. MacOS 9.2.1 sees this drive, but it is not possible to partition the superdisk. It starts, but then it says: Initialization is not possible. I use one used Superdisk and a new one, which was shrink wrapped.

Does MacOS 9.2.1 support this drive? I know that MacOS 8.6 didn't recognize the drive.

Thanks for your answer. The drivers did not work. I think it gives no driver for Ide. MaxOS 9 sees the drive as hdd and this is wrong.

@-Micky Yeah, I don't think they ever released IDE drivers. They never intended for it to work outside of the IDE-to-USB adapter & enclosure. Which is a shame. If you stumble upon a SCSI one, it'll behave in a similar way.

You could try initializing the disk using something like FWB Hard Disk ToolKit. FWB's driver might also make it useable as a generic removable cartridge drive. It's worth a shot.

Perhaps then Intech Hard Drive Speed Tools - that has drivers for all sorts of drives and might be worth a try.

Thanks for the tip. The program has drivers for an LS-100 Superdisk drive. Currently only floppy disks are recognized and not Superdisk disks. I have to test why that is the case.

I tested the drive with Windows XP. The same result as with MacOS9.

I think the drive is defective.

I might take my external one apart just to see if it works with a generic ATAPI-to-USB adapter. That might be a cheap solution.

Edit: Also might let you keep it internally mounted if you get a USB card that has internal USB ports on it. 🤔

I also did a test with Windows NT 4.0. The Ls-120 drive is also defective there. It cannot read LS-120 disks.
