So I finally got my Classic II open...

And it was surprisingly easy.

Since I got it I was getting occasional whisting noises out of the speaker and the occasional 3 thick vertical stripes on boot. These would usually show up if it had been left off for a while. They'd stay onscreen for up to 10 seconds and then it would boot fine. The last time they didn't go away and it wouldn't boot.

So I'm looking at the logic board now and it seems in relatively good shape. I think I can see some evidence of leakage but I'm not 100% sure. Here's a pic I took.

I plan to re-cap anyway but is there anything else I should look for while I have it open (which it will be for a while).

Probably some leakage under the caps where you can't see it. I plugged some headphones in and that stopped the annoying whistling in mine. Hope yours lives again!
