• Updated 2023-07-12: Hello, Guest! Welcome back, and be sure to check out this follow-up post about our outage a week or so ago.

So I am not crazy.

remember that 145 of mine that had the wierd video port coming off the side? I could not test it because some wires were snapped, and the machine was busted. I have since parted the machine out, but kept the top case with the video plug.

I thought I had the only one in existance, as google turns up nothing.

well, today, I was browsing around and found this. it appears to be the exact same aftermarket device.

Does anyone have any info on it? I may just snap this thing up to see if it works, and how.

Looks like a custom made clutch cover with an ADC external monitor port. Can't really tell the manufacturer or anything without actually looking at the part, for part numbers or any ID.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I asked over on AF, an nobody knew. apparently, mine was missing the RAM board, and half the wires to the DA-15 port were broken.

So does the 140/170 use system RAM as VRAM? Because that's the only way I can think right now that that might possibly work ....

... and it gives me an idea for my 6100

oh no not again ...

I think it does. It uses the memory as vram. My powerbook 145b that i sold (was a peice of junk) had that weird adapter to but i put it on the 170.

Still useful for any future readers to have a reply to an unanswered question, I think :) Besides, everything around here is old ;-)

I'll second that, very good info comes up by searching even the archive of the early days of the MLA. The only thing missing from my maxed out PB100 back in the day was the RAM interfaced video out card like this one. I've only seen one ever on eBay and didn't pull the trigger due to price I really couldn't afford. It'll be fun to search the MacUser/MacWorld archives for info. Links to eBay and such are ephemeral, issue dated references are for the lifetime of the Wayback Machine. :approve:
