Hi all, help appreciated here from a bit of a classic-Mac newbie..

I've got this lovely Mac SE/30 - with an Ethernet card of some type in the back! Most useful. I had it set up nicely before - this was roughly 3 months ago, so I pull out Ziggy (yes, I name my computers..) this morning, and this is where it gets interesting.

I'm trying to connect it by AppleShare - and it wasn't recognising the user accounts on my MacBook Pro (Leopard 10.5.4). So, I fiddle with the AppleTalk settings - but somewhere in the process, I think I clicked a setting wrong somewhere. :?:

After this, whenever I try to boot it with the AppleShare extension enabled, I get a bomb error at the "Starting up..." screen:

"Sorry, a system error occured.

"AppleShare"

bus error

To temporarily turn off extensions, restart and hold down the shift key."

Any ideas? Thanks!

Whom you will see and who will talk to whom depends on the OSs/Systems concerned and their versions. As a generality, OS 7.6.1 and higher see OS X 10.4 easily, and will exchange if the older system is the supplicant (client). Older Systems than 7.6.1 need an intermediary to make a two-step exchange with OS X. There are specifics at various places in these Forums. Open Transport, AppleShare, AppleTalk, TCP/IP, 'volume' size. file size and phase of the moon can all have additional effects in the mixture.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys - however, the obvious solution has been staring me in the face all this time...my old iBook, running OS 9, makes a perfect go-between for the SE/30. I tried deleting the AppleShare preferences - but it still gave me the bus error. Oh well. On the bright side, I can get to the Internet on the SE by way of the MacBook, which is kind of nice.

Thanks again!
