Screen brightness lowered

Hi,
I have noticed that a few of my old compact Macs no longer have the usual display brightness, it lowered a lot. Moving the knob. At maximum level is not too bright and it goes fully dark a lot before turning the know to zero. Let say knob from zero to middle results in a black screen. And middle to full starts to get visible.
Ideas ?

One of 2 things: adjusting the analog board brightness may help, but it’s likely that the CRT may be getting weak from years of use. They just go dim eventually and there isn’t much you can do in that case. If so, adjusting the analog board brightness control may help some, but it could cause the sharpness to decrease if the issue is a weak CRT.

There is also a control in Mac OS itself, so make sure that’s up as well.

Hi, this is a Mac SE/30, so there is no softeare control. Btw, I remember that the Mac was really bright, it has been shut off for a quite long time, and now I see it darker, so I'm unsure it could be a CRT issue. I would avoid adjusting the brightness adjustment on the analog board as it has never been touched. I woulder if an Analog Board or PSU recap could fix the issue.

Recap both boards and see what happens, it won't hurt. Could also be a dirty brightness control, maybe broken or bad solder joints on a connector..?
