Radius LeMans GT

I tried to recent find, Radius LeMans GT (nubus) to 7100/80 (with NT G3 240mhz card). I do get picture, but the screen is off, i mean (too bad i have no picture) it lacks "blue" color so mainly all blue is replaced with green. Tried with two different adapters (using dell 17" LCD). After adding the Radiusware driver 3.2.5, or 3.3, i can not load to desktop. Some of the extentions is hanging up. After removing/disabling added Radius software, loads up ok to dekstop.

Running OS 8.6. I did get *once* boot up (without extentions) with all colors correct however.

What drivers you guys have used for this card? Lowendmac states this card should work up to OS 8.6. I believe this came from Quadra 650 wich had also Apple PPC card on it. Did not boot it up with those however. Maybe need to bring the unit home and try it that way, might be working setup there.

Did not get even picture using IIci, but now the PSU on IIci isn't starting up at all.

Hope i am not looking at dead card here.

Radiusware is indeed the software required, but the problem is likely the monitor. It is usually necessary to experiment with the monitor settings (through the built-in settings of the monitor itself, not in MacOS) in order to get a relatively recent LCD to work with most any Nubus card or old Mac. A monitor that does auto-setup is ideal. Some LCDs may never work, and even in the cases of the couple that I have that are Mac-compatible, according to the user's manuals, successful use is usually not a question of plug and play.

The use of Nubus cards is also an issue to consider. I have had the built-in video of a Quadra work with an LCD when a high-end Nubus card in the same machine would not work with the LCD; in fact I had that problem with a Radius Thunder IV and an LCD, so the LeMans (which is closely related) may be doing the same thing in your case (though my screen was not a Dell).

Do you have an old CRT monitor to try with it, in order to test the LeMans card?

Screen resolution and scan rates are paramount in these situations, as is the proper Video Adapter. IIfx couldn't get the 24AC I sent him to output anything but 640 x 480 x ???Hz until he got a new VGA adapter and now it's slinging screens at its max of 1024 x 768 x ???Hz so quickly that he's amazed.

There's nothing wrong with NuBus Cards (or PDS VidCards) & LCDs as long as the Cards output VGA at the required 60 Hz (considered flickery on CRTs back in the day) which is all many LCDs will accept. It's the NuBus & PDS Cards and the Macs that are limited the primitive FixedRes settings at odd (higher) scan rates of the ColorMacWorld of yesteryear that are problematic when it comes to using them with today's LCDs.

Some LCDs are "MultiScan" within certain ranges, while some refuse to work with anything but 60Hz.

Check the results I got with a few LCDs I tested in the IIsiColorPivotII_PDS_Card_HackProject™ thread.

Thanks all, that's makes sense. I thought of this but was too tired to get the CRT i have in garage to try that out. OK, i need to do that then :) Oddly it *once* booted with correct colors (without extentions). By adding the driver, it doesn't come to the desktop at all.

Need to continue testing. Need to bring the Quadra home where it was slotted before and see if that works for him better.

De nada, compadre!

I checked it out further, the 67Hz and 75Hz vertical scan rates for the Fixed Res Mac Standards are problematic for most modern LCDs. What makes me think IIfx is using his 24AC to drive an LCD would be the 1024 x 768 x 60Hz(?) resolution he's running. That's as many pixels as it can push at the 60Hz setting, which makes no sense at all, 1152 x 870 is driven at 75Hz by the Apple version of the card. Maybe they lamed the DeclROM to the highest common denominator XGA resolution of the era. Dunno, the Radius DeclROM is considerably more versatile, IIRC. I'd need to play around with the DeclROM, now installed in the Apple 24AC some more to see for sure, it thinks it's an gen-u-ine Radius Video Card after that brain transplant.

Keep us filled in on your progress.

Made clean install of 8.6 to the 7100, but after that, i don't get *any* signal out of the Radius. I played around with the DIP-switches (i have two different, one with 8 DIP's and another with 10) but that did not help. Even basic VGA did not output. Gosh, need to get the Apple CRT from the basement, this isn't over yet! }:)

Radius webpage mentions compability for Macintosh II, Quadra and Powermacintoshes. So it should work out of the box.

So i went and get the Apple High-Res RGB monitor (M0401Z) from the basement and tried that now also. Nothing. Nada. So i was really wondering what it then could be. However, i did not found the original cable (might be on large package sealed in the basement) so i used VGA-cable with adapters. So, everyhting pointed to those adapters in my books.

Then i looked for some other solutions and remebered that i got one adapter with the "big conquest" some weeks ago. Find it and... VOILA! We have a winner! At first it gave only black/white but by just choosing "millions of colors" we are now running happily 1152x870 @ 75hz!

Now need to figure out how i can have the extention working as it used to hang on it before (or some other). Radiusware software do not work, only flash and display orientation seems to work.

Fantastic card however! No wonder it was something like 2000 usd card at the time.

You said you were playing around your DIP switched adapters, have they got the settings printed on the back side?

If not, check out Video Adapter Docs Scan Dump

BTW: there's something on Lowend Mac about some Radius Card or other not working on the highest OS supported with the RadiusWare Control Panel. IIRC, using SwitchRes was the fix.

Congrats on getting it running! Gotta love that Finnish Screen Shot, especially the words for "Thousands" and "Millions," way cool! :approve:

The other adapter (silver, same as you seems to have) did have the options printed on the another side, but the white one, did not. I got it in retail package a while ago but it didn't have any information either. It was some French firm that made it, can't remember the name however just now. I might have the box somewhere, even it just listed the screen sizes it supported. Anyway, none of those settings however worked, to my amazement. But that really doesn't matter as that older adapter seems to work (has code on it: 515-0067-01 ID=0) wich leads me to this site (in french, do googletranslate if you need) http://forum.mac4ever.com/prcdente-t13145.html?postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0.

Just need to get the extention working that's all now.

Languages are strange. On Mac, i use FInnish, but in Linux or Windows, only English, ever. Wonder why's that
