"Not enough memory available"

After experiencing some weird occurrences (menu bar disappearing) on my Performa 6200, I decided to format and start fresh. I zeroed the drive, and attempted to install OS 7.5. I booted from an OS 8 CD, OS 8.5 CD, and even a 7.6 Disk Tools diskette, but whenever I open the installer application (or any other application, like Chooser) I get a message saying that there is not enough memory available, or something of that sort. There is 64 MB of RAM in this machine, and I've reinstalled the OS many times without a problem.

Can anyone shed some light on this? My mom uses this computer, so I need to get it up and running ASAP.

Is the battery flat?

What does "About Macintosh" say the memory usage is like?

Do you have a ram disk somehow configured?

It's 7.5.3 (the one freely-distributed on Apple's site). Guess I should have been more specific. :I
Do all the installers, eg 7.6, 8.0, 8.5 report the same thing, or is it only the 7.5.3 installer?

Could you not live with 7.6.1?

What do you mean by "zeroed the drive", have you run Drive Setup (or whatever) created one HFS partition and formatted it?

Oddly, the issue only happens with the 7.5 installer...Guess I have to go back to the drawing board with that one.

Meaning, when I went into Drive Setup and formatted the drive, I checked the box that said "Zero all data".

My Performa 6200 came with a CD with the operating system (7.5.1 I think ) and Claris Works 3.0, have you tried that disk?
